Why did they stop production on the movie after Alex Baldwin shot someone?

Brandon Lee was the star of The Crow before being accidentally being shot dead on set and they continued with production. Hired a lookalike to complete the rest of the shoot and no one batted an eye. I repeat, that was the star.

Now we have some woman that worked behind the camera who no one even knew existed getting shot and the entire production is shut down.

What happened to the show must go on?

IDK but am gonna guess. The actor who accidentally killed Lee wasn't to blame, and would still see his widow for years afterwards without any bad feeling. Compared to the Baldwin situation where the family seem to hold him responsible, either for firing the gun or because he was a producer and created a film set with poor gun safety. If he went back and finished the film it would make him look heartless which looks even worse in court.

I think partly could also be that the Baldwin movie wasn't an important film. They were working with an inexperienced crew to save money so not high on Hollywood's list of priorities. When there was a death making Deadpool 2 they carried on with the film because Hollywood cared about that film. But with Baldwin's film, I didn't know it was being made until the shooting was in the news. Compare that to The Crow, which was an adaptation of a well-received graphic novel starring Lee who was seen as a potential future A list star. Powerful producers probably still saw dollar signs after Lee's death because it was a very dark film about death and grief and in a messed up way his real life death made the film more meaningful to watch.

I’m guessing because of the ongoing investigation. The DA is now saying he may not have actually pulled he trigger, which is bullshyt. Countless YouTube videos have demonstrated how that exact gun works and how you would need to pull the trigger to fire it, it’s the only way the gun was discharge. Baldwin is one of the untouchable Hollywood elites, nothing will happen to him. He is already acting like the victim here. Scumbag.

I figure much of this is probably true but at the same time I’m reminded of two movies where they replaced the lead actor during or after production. Kevin Spacey in All The Money in The World and Chris D’Elia in Army of The Dead. Reshoot some scenes and voila.

Seems unwise to have the team assembled, all the set locations and schedules aligned and then Suzie or whatever her name was gets shot and now everyone goes home empty handed.

I remember him too.

And a guy named R Bud Dwyer put a real gun into his mouth during a live press conference and offed himself as well. That's on youtube. Also a female newscaster named Christine Chubbuck shot herself in the head live on the air. They made some kind of documentary about her. That footage is believed to be either destroyed or locked away, much like Owen Hart's accident tape is locked away.
