You give up too much height. Moving back you need to be on toe.
I was always taught to bend them, and keep the right foot's heel up. It's true you need to be on your toe's moving back, but he is on the heavy bag anyways, and what's worse it it's a standing one, so he can't move around too much.

Well you were taught right. But I mean, it depends on who you are.
What type of fighter, short or tall, the style all that.
Of course you bend your knee to add some flavor to a shot............but when you bend you knee you become immobile and have trouble defending shots.
To each his own. I just think hitting a 4' tall bag is hilarious.
