One mistake we Americans frequently make is to project our very particular racial ideas on the rest of the world. This can take all kinds of forms: outrage at the Spanish basketball team making chink eyes (neither the Chinese nor the Spanish considered this "racist"), this thread, etc.

Edit: another example: Hopkins trying to provoke Calzaghe, who lives in a country without white/black racial difficulties, by calling him a "whiteboy."
