    No. Costa Rica played Chelsea-ball.

You act like I haven't been in this topic talking football for years. Triangle theories don't work here Rory.

chelsea struggles against stoke. Barcelona struggles against chelsea. So therefore Barcelona can't beat stoke.

    ^ that's you right now.

You only bring this up because you're a fat yank and fat yanks can't grasp a game ending in a draw, or 'tie' as you fat yanks call it.

Tell me, how should the game be decided? Or would you have a new scoring system, where the average game ends with 500 points being scored? Would that be more to your liking, as an ADD-suffering fat yank? Do explain...

i have no issue with the games in the group stage ending in a draw. i have no issues with games in the other leagues ending in a draw, though i'd like to see them settled in extra time in a playoff context.

i would have overtime continue indefinitely, the way it is done in hockey.

i'd entertain the idea of postponing the game, or even going to penalties, but it certainly wouldn't be after so little extra time.

        change them.

there's too much luck involved in penalty kicks. it's much less sporting than extra time.

So how long should the extra time last? Playing 90 minutes, then 30 minutes of ET is the ultimate test. The fitness required to do that is out of this ****ing world. You have no idea. And you want MORE out of them? lol

why dont they move the ball placement back a little bit for the penalty kicks?

the ball is too close imo.

moving it back would make it more balanced offense vs defense wise and your technique and skill would come into play more.

its too easy to score on PK. moving it back would ratchet up the degree of difficulty.

You're massively overestimating the amount of luck involved. It's a game of pressure.

If it was all about luck then England would actually win more than one every century.

This is what I think as well, there's too much chance involved and it heavily favors the offense.

For once I think I'll agree with a fat yank. It may well be too close, you're right.

Although I'd say that maybe we could have two penalty spots - one for normal time (when someone is fouled in the box and they get a penalty, the spot used now can be used for that), then for penalty shootouts, another spot can be used. Maybe half way between the penalty spot that exists now, and the 18-yard line. Or even going back as far as the 18-yard line.
