In the space of about 4 hours Joey Barton went from calling Thiago Silva 'another fat overrated Brazilian' (in response to him defending Neymar), to saying that he takes it all back and he doesn't think he's overrated any more. This is after 1 game.
Typifying the current generation of MOTD pundits we have all over the internet.

I respect Joey Barton. He's hilarious to follow on twitter.
I do hold a belief though that centre half is the easiest position on the pitch by quite some distance. Hence why JT was one of the top 3-4 centre halves in Europe for many years despite having zero pace, prone to rushes of blood to the head and often badly exposed in one on one situations. He got away with it through a mixture of a deep defensive line and having a quick defensive partner.
Centre halves play in the smallest area of the pitch and get the most time on the ball. You'd have to mental to spend £40 million on a centre-back.
In real terms strikers and goalkeepers are probably the most valuable players in terms of points won, imo.
When City offered £40 million under Mark Hughes for John Terry some eejit at Chelsea should have bitten their hand off!
Good centre halves seem to benefit from experience more than any other position. Which is why Johnny Evans used to be a joke but is now one of the top centre-halves in the league.
