Messi aint never done anything on the world stage.

hmmm...... in the last WC, 19 year old Messi did it though, he came on as a sub in the last 20 minutes, made an assist and scored a goal against Serbia. Then against Mexico he came on as a sub, it was 1-1 and he scored again, only to be taken away because of an offside. All this while injured, so yeah I think he did just that, announce himself on the biggest stage, he was 19 and injured at the time.....

One cameo performance, Rooney was the player of the tourney 2004.

Max Rodriguez had to bail them out against Mexico.

Did you even watch that WC? Messi hardly got any game time apart from that cameo, you wanna make out he had a good tourney on 20/15 min cameo Lol.

I don't know why you say he hasn't been as in form as last season and that he hasn't been mentioned much but clearly that isn't the case and yesterday's game proved it once again. The style in which Messi scored that hattrick is the talking point, Rooney scored a hattrick allright but not in the same way Messi did. And if one player isn't in the form of last season its Henry IMO.
In almost every Barcelona game Messi is the MOTM, and thats hard considering the talented midfield that team has. Yeah Rooney shows glimpses of his whole game but not always, he is just scoring loads of goals from anywhere ATM, Messi creates, makes and scores the goals for Barca in almost every match. Plus they are two different kinds of players, Rooney can't dribble the way Messi can, etc. Plus saying that because Messi plays in La Liga he does what he wants, please, thats just trying to grab something of a somewhat importance to validate a claim. There are teams in the Premier League whose defending is comparable to league 2 football, Portsmouth, Wolves, Burnley, Hull, etc. Plus the defending on Saturday from Fulham was comical at minimum. Compare that to Valencia's yesterday and the way that small **** scored that first goal and there you have your answer.
Ok, dont get what im saying wrong, i do think messi is an unbelievable player....but people are putting rooney down, just because we see him everyday, its like when you talk of zidane, just cos they are in a different league...dont make them the best, when people hear rooney abroad they think of him as the messi of england....

Rooney has scored a hell of alot of important goals so far this year, Messi can take on 3 players and score, and yes that is amazing.....but you talk about the fulham defending....wtf was the defending about for the first goal? the guy literally ran past messi, he flicked a foot out....

Rooney creates all of his own space...and im pretty damn sure if he wanted to, he would run past 3-4 players himself from midfield...whenever he gets the ball, how often have u actually seen some1 tackle him?

They are two completely different players...And im not saying messi isnt doing amazing because he is...but i mean, this time last year there wasnt even competition for him....i dont know why people are saying he takes this by a long shot because he doesnt

You say messi gets MOTM virtually every game....so does rooney!!! Hes literally got man of the match for nearlly every game hes played in this season...

Yeah Rooney shows glimpses of his whole game but not always, he is just scoring loads of goals from anywhere ATM, Messi creates, makes and scores the goals for Barca in almost every match.
Urm wtf? Rooney doesnt show 'glimpses' he does it every game without fail....this season ive seen him played bad once, and thats saying something in 36 appearances.... Rooney creates goals a hell of alot, just because he might not be getting the assists...look at the pass he made to park in the last match, it was better then parks cross + the header from berba.....And rooney scores in virtually every match (again yes this season).... but why say ATM, because hes done it all season long, Ronaldos gone and Rooneys stepped up to the plate...

Rooney is in form ATM but his not the same kind of player in the pitch as Messi and thats the truth
lol....Rooney has been underrated for the last 4 years (and dont get me wrong, people know hes a good player, but i've heard, hes not a good striker, hes not good enough for united...blabla) But wht the hell, hes still the same rooney in my eyes, all that has changed is instead of giving inch perfect assists...hes ****ing the goals in himself.....Its the same rooney but hes getting credit for the goals....he still works hard, he passes like a center midfielder....he has amazing vision

Theres no doubting it, messi is and will be 1 of the greatest footballers we have ever seen (along with Ronaldo, and hopefully Rooney and i can imagine Fabregas getting to that status) This Era is better then people think

Look at the previous Ballon D'or's ... when have you seen the same name 4 times in a row? Messi + Ronaldo will probably be in the top 3 for the 4th time in a row...that just shows how dominant they are, in previous years the only person to get into a few times more than most in Luiz Ronaldo, and Zidane

Anyway, im not saying Rooney is better then Messi, but im saying to say he isnt the same class is harsh

Talking about the defending in Spain compared to the defending in England? Raul Bravo played for Real Madrid Lol, Pascal Cygan played well for Villarreal when he first left Arsenal, Deigo Forlan could not score for **** in the Prem, Kanoute was a run of the mill decent player when he was in the Prem, both those guys were leading scorers in Spain at one point or another.

Julio Baptista was scoring plenty of goal for Sevllie, he joined Arsenal on loan from Real Madrid and was aptly named Craptista.

First off, Your comparing two different tourneys, WC is a bigger stage than the Euro. Second, Rooney scored in two of those matches, they were group stage matches, other than that nothing worth mentioning really, hardly worth saying it was his tournament. He scored, but thats what a striker should do. Gerrard, Scholes and Lampard also scored on those same games.

Considering he was injured, 19 and in the WC, yeah, I'd say he made somewhat of a statement, scoring on two different matches, albeit the Mexico goal was ruled offside, and having an assist, FAR better tourney than what Rooney had that year and Rooney started some matches........

Well first off Messi did'nt have an impact so its irrelevant Lol

Rooney got injured in the quarters finals or last 16, plus if you actually watched the tourney you would know it was not just about his goals, his performances were impeccable.

Err no, if you actually watched the tourney neither of them had a great impact, Rooney because he was played as a lone striker, which he has adapted to now but was a fish outta water playing that role back then, Messi hardly got any game time and Argentina went out despite having a very strong squad of players, infact many questioned why the manager was so reluctant to actually use Messi, Messi did well when he came on in cameo performance but that does not equate to him " doing it at International level" Lol

Bottom line is Rooney was the star of 2004, Messi aint dont jack on International level.

Its great that football is more popular world wide these days, negatives are you get johnny come lately's like who just started watching the game and dont know what there talking about Lol.

Nobody is putting Rooney down, hes up there with the best players ATM, top three, but Messi is just a little notch above, nothing wrong with that really....

Rooney has scored a hell of alot of important goals so far this year, Messi can take on 3 players and score, and yes that is amazing.....but you talk about the fulham defending....wtf was the defending about for the first goal? the guy literally ran past messi, he flicked a foot out....

What is so WTF? about the Fulham defending, they simply left him free and just stood there for the goal, they did absolutely nothing, the was one of the easiest goals United will score this season. "The guy literally ran past messi", man, watch his feet, you'll see why the defender flicked a foot out, Messi moved the ball so fast and so close it was impossible to defend, those little pockets of space he made them his on that goal

Rooney creates all of his own space...and im pretty damn sure if he wanted to, he would run past 3-4 players himself from midfield...whenever he gets the ball, how often have u actually seen some1 tackle him?

Don't know why people say last season he was better, he been better, last season his tally was, 31 game, 23 goals, 11 assists. This season, 23 games, 22 goals, 9 assists. Barca as a whole were better last term, thats maybe the reason people aren't noticing much now, Henry was far better, Yaya Toure, Xavi, plus they had Eto'o not Zlatan. Thats the reason he takes this by a long shot, hes better than last season and will finish stronger.

Urm wtf? Rooney doesnt show 'glimpses' he does it every game without fail....this season ive seen him played bad once, and thats saying something in 36 appearances.... Rooney might create, but hes not the same as Messi, they are different players, different mentality, Rooney playing bad once this season, c'mon, Fulham away, Villa at home, Everton away so on, don't get blinded by the fact that he can't stop scoring ATM.

lol....Rooney has been underrated for the last 4 years (and dont get me wrong, people know hes a good player, but i've heard, hes not a good striker, hes not good enough for united...blabla) But wht the hell, hes still the same rooney in my eyes, all that has changed is instead of giving inch perfect assists...hes ****ing the goals in himself.....Its the same rooney but hes getting credit for the goals....he still works hard, he passes like a center midfielder....he has amazing vision

Why do you insist on saying hes underrated, when I say hes not at the same level of Messi, the best player ATM, thats not underrating him, thats saying he top 2 really.

Theres no doubting it, messi is and will be 1 of the greatest footballers we have ever seen (along with Ronaldo, and hopefully Rooney and i can imagine Fabregas getting to that status) This Era is better then people think

So what, there are bad defenders everywhere, Eric Djemba-Djemba played for United, Cacapa from Newcastle, Darren Williams played for Sunderland, Phil Babb played for Liverpool, Jason Gavin played for Newcastle, Abel Xavier for Liverpool......

So your disproving your own point, you questioned the standard of some of the defending in England.
