Not downgrading United's win but that attack wasn't that dangerous, no creativity at all, they were pretty much shut down from midfield, IMO Park, Fletcher and Scholes were the ones who did all the defensive work. The back four only had to deal with the occasional long ball. They looked solid IMO because of the five man midfield really...
I know what your saying, of course the midfield working hard would help the defense....but any ball tht went into the box...ferdinand was there, he won practicly every header....the times the ball was scuffed around in the area and it was dangerous he got the blocks....he was just solid, and milan wernt great but they were not THAT bad, they just didnt finish their chances

For Rooney to be comparable to what Ronaldinho was, he would have to be dominant against Barcelona and Chelsea, who are the top tier teams in the Champions League (along with United). Now, I'm aware they are two different players and have different qualities, but what I'm getting at is big match performances against the very best, is what sets them apart.

In 2005/06 he was the brightest star amongst a bunch of very talented individuals, the likes of Deco, Iniesta, Xavi, Eto'o, Messi. He ran **** at Barca during this time, he was instrumental in Barca's CL win that season. When they needed inspiration and a big match winner, they had that in abundance in Gaucho.

That season he most notably displayed his brilliance against Mourinho's Chelsea, Ancellotti's Milan, and single handedly embarrassed Real at the Bernabeu, where he recieved a standing ovation from Madrid's home fans.

I've yet to see Rooney destroy Chelsea or Barcelona single handedly, until he does, we can then begin to make comparisons.

I'm not knocking Rooney, as I do believe he deserves to mentioned in the same breath as Messi & Ronaldo. I just feel it's premature to draw comparisons to a genuine ATG, who at his best was greater than both Messi & Ronaldo.

Lets not go overboard.. Ronaldhino had ATG skills and performed fantastic for 2 seasons at Barca and then just faded, the likes of Giggs, Zidane and co are the true modern all time greats who have skills but longevity also.

His performance vs Madrid was great, but lets not forget this is Madrid which have been knocked out 6 times in a row at the 2nd phase of the Cleague and just aren't very good. VS Milan he setup a goal if i remeber right, he didn't set the place alight and against Arsenal he practically went missing.

He also was backed up by great players in xavi, Iniesta, deco but also the 2 or 3rd best player in the world at the time in Eto, who was probably the best striker in world football at the time. Rooney on the other hand is backed up by a pretty good but far from exceptional team at United.

Infact i don't know what is happening to European football but the United team over the last few years was probably the worse in quite some time compared to Ince/Keane and Scholes/Beckham eras, hell i'd even say when Van Nistlerooy/Veron were playing for United we had a better team then we do now. Yet we seem to be going to the semis/final on a regular basis atm.

But anyway Ronaldhino is the Zab Judah of Football, sure he had all the talent and performed great for a short spell but then he just died through partying. Ronaldo (the Brazil version) really is an ATG tho 2 or 3 serious career ending injuries but pulled his club/country too World cup wins/CL wins etc. I'll never forget how happy i was for him in 2002 at the world cup and how he destroyed United in the champions league for Real.

I know your not knocking rooney..you just think ronaldinho was that great

But Rooney has been Uniteds main man since he came to the club.....He was half the reason ronaldo got 42 goals....he assisted majority of them, Rooney is a big game performer....i understand he needs a few more games to prove it...but right now is the perfect time for him, champions league....world cup

Its the perfect oppertunity to prove how big a player he has....hes scored 4 goals against milan in 2 games, people might say milan were rubbish bla bla....but if you watch the goals, they were great, and milan didnt even play that bad, united just dominated the 2nd leg, from shere work rate

Rooneys 24....Hes got a hell of a career infront of him

Hes the hope for Englands world cup drought

Zab Judah of football? That's a bit harsh

IN 2004-2006 he was exceptional. The fact he played with Xavi, Iniesta, Eto'o and outshone them all, shows his greatness. His peak could have been longer, but still an ATG nonetheless. And yes I do agree that original Ronaldo was greater.

However, I was comparing him to Rooney right now. He needs to put in strong performances against Chelsea and/or Barca for him to compare.

I know it's a bit harsh but you know what i mean guy had the talent to be THE best of the last 20 years or so at least, but didn't really carry on his form and got fat/drank all the time.

I Ronaldo dude was my favorite player every growing up (i know he parties alot too) but coming back from career ending injuries and driving your country/club to the top trophies.. guy should have his own movie

I'm a Ronaldinho groupie myself and it's frustrating to see him fade away at 29 years old. It's not like he got injured or anything, unlike... Ronaldo, that boy was the heir to Pele before he got injured. if that hadn't happened he would've go on to do great great things, man. (not ****ting on his career, as it is he's achieved a LOT already).

I still remember that season he was at Barca, ****ing ridiculous talent.

In my eyes, Ronaldo is the greatest striker ive ever seen.....I cant say pele was better...or maradonna etc...i never watched them, you just hear about their history

But oh my god....Ronaldo just terrified defenses......His step overs were the best ive ever seen, his whole body weight, would be on 1 side of the step over, you truely would believe he was going that way, and he would do 2-3 more step overs until the person was on their ass....

great goalscorer....could finish the ball practicly everytime he was given the chance.....he was skillful.....was a complete tank, no1 was stopping him or barging him out the way lol

Personally i think hes the greatest striker ever....what a shame he had bad injuries....to be fair he put on alot of weight tho...was that before the injury or after?

Angel Di Maria is very overrated, people are talking about paying £30 mill plus for him. He's worth £20 mill maximum. Anyone can look good on a highlight video and he's not proven he's only in the Portugese league, just look at a highlight video of Nani. Him and Anderson came from the same league looking very good, but they have found it hard in England. I wouldn't get that excited about Di Maria despite everyone raving about him.

All you have to do is show a bit of skill and tricks on camera nowadays and you get labelled as the next big thing. Look at Douglas Costa, he was rumoured to move to the big clubs but ended up going to Shaktar and they just got dumped out of Europa, plus i'm not even sure if he gets a starting place in that team, i know for one of the games against Fulham he didn't start, i think he came on as a sub and did nothing.

I think it was after, it would make sense. But yeah out of the players i've been privaledged to watch i'd say Ronaldo is the best. Zidane, Ronaldinho and the prime 07/08 season C Ronaldo get honourable mentions.
