You can see an Essien written down on the team sheet but it's in name only. The poor old sod is shot to pieces and I've been saying it all season long. About three times a game he feels his knees. Then you can pretty much go through the Chelsea team and ask yourself if they are as good as they were.
The proof is in the pudding and Chelsea have finished with their lowest points total in 8 years. And it's not really the managers fault that they haven't performed, but there is an argument without loyalty to certain players a new guy could come in and make the big calls.
We're never going to have an Alex Ferguson who will be given 4 years to win nothing. Unless realism kicks in under FFP and our situation changes.
But, yeah. I would say we were mediocre.
