La Liga has better "technical" defenders - read the game well and make interceptions to win the ball without having to make a tackle.

Prem has better "physical" defenders - winning headers, 50-50's, close tussles

I dont know if the defenders are any better, but I reckon its harder to defend in La Liga, as your more exposed, the refs protect the players, so the players have more time on the ball to express themselves.


Also, almost all Spanish teams play a short patient passing game, only the smaller teams have less quality. Maybe that inability to mix up their game, to play it long and be more aggressive, hinders their chances of beating teams like Real, Barca ?

Stoke are going to make you defend, no matter how much talent you have in your side.

I think people underestimate just how big an influence the referees have on the style of play that each league plays.

Chelsea's first 4-6 weeks in start of the season won all their games by 6-0 or 7-0.

Only teams that can beat Real is United and Chelsea. Chelsea needs to be sorted out and at their best. United needs to be at their best and with luck.
