England play too rigid, which is a result of a lack of technique, as the players dont trust each other enough with the ball, you could see it a mile off in the first half, the man on the ball wont pass the ball when his team mate is in tight areas cause he doesn't think he will retain possession, so the man on the ball will come back, or go square, also, because the players who are supposed to be showing for the ball, are not confident enough in their own ability to control it in tight situations, they dont show for the ball as much, which is where England become rigid, why they cant play fluid football and interchange positions, why go long when they cant pass their way through.
You are spot on about the other stuff though.. i mean the said players gave England a masterclass in pretty much all the stuff you mentioned. They retained possession.. and had belief in each other..
Who was are Front 3 supporting Carrol? Milner, Gerrard and Walcott they are the complete opposite of there french counterparts. They are all pace.. balls to the wall.. the likes of Nasri/Malouda bring pace but they also bring class and patience on the ball.
I will say though that if you had Terry, Cole, Hart, Lampard, Rooney, Johnson in there it would have made a difference. I am not sure what Ferguson and co see in Henderson but whatever.. Carrol had a fairly good first half (didn't watch the second half turned over to the apprentice )

France might not be as good as they used to be but IMO Malouda, Nasri, Benzema, Lloris and Gourcuff are all world class players.
Also, we only lost 2-1 in a meaningless friendly. We were playing a lot of young players and players who don't even play for their club much, players who have never played together before.
We as a nation will obviously see it as a complete failure and blast the players and manager but what you should be doing is looking at the positives and trying to spot little bits of potential that can be built on. Blasting young players on the back pages tomorrow will not help their confidence or development. Fair enough if it was an experienced side but you don't want to destroy our youngsters before they have even had a chance. It was one friendly match with a team who half had never played together before. You can't expect a new young team to gel straight away in 1 game against a team with some world class players.
Though i will critcise Capello for fielding players like Lescott, Barry, Walcott, Jagielka who imo will never be good enough to play for England. And if he was trying to create a young team for the future he should not be playing Ferdinand and Gerrard. Chris Smalling is the new Ferdinand he's kept Rio out the team a couple of times at United already and Ferguson has admitted that.
Also, think about the players out of the team. Up front you have Defoe, Bent, Rooney you could even add Agbonlahor who are all brilliant on their day and not too old. In midfield there's players like Tom Huddlestone, Jack Wilshere and Tom Cleverly who in the future will be a good player and is very young, he didn't even start good players like Adam Johnson or Ashley Young. In defence there's guys like Gary Cahill and Michael Dawson, could even look at bringing in Nedum Onuoha at RB because we have no decent RB's and he's been impressing lately. Looking in the U21 side you got Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge.
I'm not shocked we lost because we look terrible at the best of times let alone when we are fielding a young new side.Last edited by Joe2608; 11-17-2010, 06:25 PM.

Don't agree with the pace comment. Walcott is quick yes, but Gerrard and Milner have never been regarded as pacy players.

Gerrard in particular will look to play a killer ball straight away when it's just not the time for it.. Honestly based on the first half 50 % of the time an England player got the ball they would launch it straight away rather then bringing it down and passing it round.. building from the backLast edited by MOTHER DUCKER; 11-17-2010, 07:16 PM.
