We just got porked by some random generated club.

To be fair preseason means nothing because you just dont know if they have been doing double sessions plus making 10 changes. Additionally that Charlotte coach really wanted that he was defending the 1 nil loss hard with the 5 changes in the last 10 mins. Then tbf a 7 year old won a pen, lol. I enjoyed that. Plus I think MLS has improved. They competed well against a bit of a disinterested Chelsea.

However my takeaway from that as I regretfully watched it is there is a gargantuan drop off in quality within a double 6 between Kova and Jorgi and Gallagher and Ampadu. Gallagher might learn that role but Chelsea fans are gonna get miffed when Connor doesn't get minutes. Need a system change to be useful from the get go. No room for sentiment really.

I dont enjoy Jorginho. I find him a really dull footballer with the athleticism of a fruit fly....but he is what the trendies call press resistant. In his head he has hit 5 simple passes and maybe it is the 5th that will break the first press. It is a skill. The alternative is to dribble around a press like Kova does and to less success RLC can do. At Chelsea you get pressed hard in that midfield because in part we want it to happen and because if the opposition do turn over the ball they are in on goal.

I can't see how Connor can play in that role without being eased in. Even then he might never be good at it. Saul was absymal at it.

Gallagher is a Gerrard really- not comparing them in terms of class but just typically English in style. He can hit that killer ball and get into the box. He is a difference maker but not a cog in a machine.

Chelsea fans have gone from losing their minds about only having CHO (who is not good enough) to literally having 10 plus premier league quality academy players plus loads more academy graduates througout the league and Europe wanting to play them all.

If Chelsea played them all we would finish 12th. This isn't football manager.

Broja with his 6 goals is treated like Diego amongst my mates.

I like Connor and Ethan - they have the minutes and robustness about them. I am not sure about a 19 year old Colwill just yet and certainly not promising big minutes to a 6 goal Broja. The Chelsea academy is basically the new Masia - they have big value before they do much but we are gonna lose a lot of them to other teams

It's a friendly but I still LOLed over that. Everton got their shlt pushed in by Minnesota, Man City gave up two goals to literally the worst team in MLS

Yep. The world's greatest players are there.

                USA USA USA

Bur if it helps US sawker fans should drum that narrative really to grow the sport. Chelsea have lost 4-1 to New York Red Bulls reserves before, lost to a league 1 QPR at the time by a similar score. I think Tuchel was annoyed with the team but traditionally Chelsea are an appalling pre season team.

That said that Charlotte team kept the ball well against an inexperienced second half team. Not inconsequential because Conor Gallagher looked crap against them and he is a player that needed to impress. Tuchel will be questioning him already as a n option.

Another key addition for Palace adding Chris Richards from Bayern to finally give us some CB depth. Also gonna be cool having a talented, young American on the team for once. Curious to see if the rumors of Vieira wanting to go to a back 3 are true, will be something to watch. Now we just need to unload Benteke

No way fellas. Did you see that kid give young Chalo the rope-a-dope? Then that budget Darwin Nunez gave Mendy the panenka and scored on pens as well.

It is just pre season as you guys have said buuuuuut it was on penalties. If anything, we know without a doubt that Mendy cannot be trusted on penalties to get panenka'd by some random generated player... actually they didn't miss a single pen, did they? Mendy is as awful at pens as Kepa is from open play. Pure facts.

Tuchel definitely needs a system(formation) switch though. I wouldn't even call it a system because he has no patterns of play.

There's nothing "systemic" about how he sets Chelsea up. We don't 'gegenpress', we don't press with a high line (Lampard-by-way-of-AVB), we don't position in triangles (pep), we don't 'up-down-and-through' (Jose), we don't hold possession for possession sake (sarriball), we don't play early passes, we don't play cross-happy.

Conte used 3-atb but had a system. Bad defenders, so played with 5 and used Cesc to bypass midfield quickly and let Hazard, Diego et al. play with acres. On the occasion we didn't have acres: overload one flank and play the long switch (it's why Moses and Alonso were so effective). All else fails, set pieces put us over the line.

                      What is Tuchel's system? *crickets*

Man puts us in a 3-atb because all of our CBs ****** in a back 4 (Koulibaly left to be seen). Fair enough.

So he gives up a midfielder to solidify the back. But has a midfield of pure utility players. None pass beyond 10 yards consistently nor protect the back.

So now you have a disjointed team. Can't protect the back, so you play with more defenders. Can't service the forwards either so you are stuck in the mud.

He doesn't utilize overloads because he choses the narrow attack (2-1). Plays with a midfielder as striker because he can hold up a ball but doesn't play 'up-down-and-through' either (essentially how Drogba or Costa held up the ball and put Lampard or Hazard through under Jose) so Mount and whoever teams with him never get much chances on goal.

Timo has been ruined, so idc how many chances he messes up, should've thought of that before making Michael Owen play like Olivier Giroud.

He also doesn't use flank switches. Which is why our wingbacks now don't flourish like Alonso and Moses were back then. They get the ball with 2-3 defenders set. Instead of being alone and its mainly because Jorginho, Kovacic, and Kante cannot play a 30 yard pass to the corner.

                      Thus, Tuchel's Chelsea.

I don't even know how he's going to use Sterling. Because Sterling is not too dissimilar to Werner and he only got those looks vs Charolette because Ampadu would pass over 30 yards. Good luck with Jorginho look up, seeing the run, and deciding to pass backwards.
