Hell Conte came in and won the league with a similar squad in his first season.. It's not like Chelsea have the pressure of the CL either.. they are playing farmers and fisherman in the Europa cup

+ They usually respond pretty well for the first season or so when a new manager comes in

United and Chelsea have both heavily underachieved this season.. no way both of them should be under Spurs.. Imo even Liverpool are overachieving to be were they are neck and neck with City

Sometimes you have to cut your loses early.. the likes of Scolari.. Moyes.. Sarri were not the right choices..

The fact that this dude has clearly lost the dressing room already is not a good sign.. I have rarely seen a manager lose a dressing room and turn it round.. United gave Mourhino longer then they should.. you can say we had easy games but no way does a Mourhino United win 10 games out of 12

Player power has taken over and it sucks
Go back through this thread to have a look at what was being said at the start of the season if you want.

Conte won the league first season yes. Conte wasn't trying to completely redefine the entire philosophy of the club, so it's a weak comparison to make.

Comparing with Pep's first season is the easiest parallel to draw.

It was always pretty unlikely that a Chelsea in transition would finish above City/Liverpool/Spurs, all of which have settled squads and/or higher quality players in most positions. United have largely the same squad that finished 2nd last year too. As I said, what has transpired has been largely what fans/the board were (or at least should've been) expecting.

Sarri is a sort of coach. His subs and reading of the game dictate that he doesn’t really know anything about football.

      4. "City have that much possession I genuinely reckon I could do a job in their midfield. Just stand in space and play 10 yard passes all day."

      5. "Never before have I thought I could replace a player/manager myself and do a better job, but I genuinely could with this **** (bonus points if said about separate players/managers at different points throughout a season, whilst still retaining the 'never before' phrase)."

      6. "I've given (insert X) the benefit of the doubt until now but it's official, the **** doesn't know a thing about football."

      7. "That's the most pathetic Chelsea performance I've ever seen."

      8. "Dele Alli is s**t. **** always scores against Chelsea though."

      9. "Chelsea don't compete for top signings or pay top wages any more so 5th is about par for the course really."

*Chelsea sitting a point behind 4th place*

"Bizzare that Sarri is still in the job really."

Stand by all of these tbh

And 5th is par if he were doing anything at all. Which he ain’t.

          What has Sarri actually done?

Most pathetic Chelsea display is still the one where we lost 1 nil to you lot last season.

The 6 nil was better. Unbelievably.

But yeah they literally are 1 and 2.

Pre that you’re going Tromso away in my lifetimes anyway

That first season we conceded at least a dozen goals in the league due to the fullbacks giving away possession in key areas of the pitch and then conceding on the counter. Our fullbacks still play the same way and take the same risks now but because we now have the right players (to some extent) in those positions, and they've had ample time to play in that system, we're all the better for it. Call it stubbornness if you want but that's how a manager implements a radical change in philosophy at a club, as far as I can see there's not many ways round it.

Literally nothing has happened at Chelsea that we didn't expect. It was widely acknowledged that you'd be playing for 4th/5th at best this season whilst the squad got to grips with the new man at the helm.

Majority of the people having a go at Sarri's set up. 99% of the time their solution is to play Kante in Jorginho's position in front of the back 4. That. Is. Not. The. Manager. You. Hired. And you knew that.

One of the other solutions is to give CHO more game time. Do you really think the ****s in the dressing room at Chelsea would be willing to let a teenager take their minutes? You're having a laugh. You'd have a couple of threatened transfer requests in by the end of the week. It's a dressing room of grown babies by the sounds of it.
That's the thing though. I don't think anyone wants the philosophy to change per se. (maybe more-so now since Chelsea got trashed 4-0 by Bournemouth and 6-0 by City)

Sarri can keep his ideals and philosophy but there's no way he can trot out the same 433 with the same exact personnel and expect to not have the same problems as before.

Same 433, same tactics; putting Alonso at left back and expecting him to -not- get ****d for pace this time, makes no sense.

I watched a lot of pundits talk about Kante too. I don't think they understand it but at the very least, Sarri could simply switch Kante to the left side to cover for Hazard and Alonso's inability to defend. But Sarri won't even do that.

Sarri won't even start Emerson and Christensen who both have ample playing time at large and semi-large clubs. AS Roma and Monchengladbach. No way anyone can keep tossing Luiz and Alonso out there, when you can play the former 2 and at least mold them into the kind of players you want while their brains and legs help keep the clean sheet.

Chelsea 100% have a dressing room issue, I agree fully. It stems from mainly Willian and Luiz though. Full stop. It stems from them. You can already see it in Willian's body language since he's been dropped/rested for maybe 2 games now. While Luiz on more than one occasion has directly contributed to multiple goals conceded since that shot from Kane outside of the box went in, that Luiz jump out of the way of.

Also, I will take the 1-0 loss against City over the 6-0 loss any day.

It's no different than when we parked the bus against Barcelona really. Except that team had a modicum of talent, whereas the 1-0 loss to City had Bakayoko clueless and Cesc would couldn't be arsed to track De Bruyne which led to the goal. Or maybe Cesc did try, he was just so slow, he may as well have stood in place.

The 6-0 loss was way worse because the team has improved, Kovacic > Bakayoko, Jorginho > Drinkwater, Kepa > Big nose. Yet they were played completely off the pitch. We lost the game in the first 20 minutes. 3-0 before 20 minutes, 4-0 before the half.... that by all means is worse than the 1-0 defeat.

Even Newport played City better than that 6-0 losing side.

Pogba is playing like one of the best midfielders in the game atm..

I don't know wether to be pissed at him or Mourhino.. I was all for him being sold a few months ago

But he's probably scored more in the last 10 games then he did in 2 seasons with Mourhino

Anyone expect a response for Chelsea in the second half? They have had more possession but they seem woeful..

I feel like United might score every time we attack alonso

Idk Chelsea have good players.. and even some guys on the bench like Willian or Giroux who can change a game.. they just seem so poor.. do u reckon sarri has 45min to save his job?
