We have had some good performances down the year.. 96 was my first major tournament watching England.. as in 94 we never made it.

God damn Gazza was so close.. that was the first tourney with golden goal too right? Pretty sure we would have beat the czechs too.

98 was pretty amazing we had a good team under hoddle and got screwed over vs the argies. Sol Campbell is incredibly unlucky. We had chances.. 96.. Japan and Korea when we lost to brazil.. the rest of the teams were weak AF

Beating Argentina 1-0 with a beckham penalty was a highlight too. We always seem to **** ourselfs by getting someone sent off/going to pens...

Rooney vs Ronaldo and we still outplayed portugal with 10 but then lost on pens..

I don't think the talisman thing is very true, if that was the case we would be starting with Rooney up top because he's the all time scorer for England. The problem that every England manager seems to make is shoehorning players in a system that they aren't suited too. I don't know what it is about the England job that does this to good managers. Because it isn't just Roy that has done this.

And let's be honest, does it look like fun playing for England, knowing if you slip up you will be destroyed in the media and the stands. It's not an environment that can breed a successful international team.

Not sure about the media/stands stuff.. i mean the Spanish media/fans are far worse.. Look at Madrid.. fans were booing Ronaldo/Bale at stages after a few bad games.. could you imagine Spurs/united fans doing that?

Now days nobody has expectations anymore anyway.. Well to get out of the group this year

Back in the "golden era" maybe there was too much pressure.. we had the team to win competitions imo though.. WC korea for example.

I think it was put in around jan when he signed an extension.
