Just out of curiosity why do you say a new Sol Campbell and not a Tony Adams?

Is Campbell regarded higher by most gooners?

Sol Campbell was a great defender in his prime.

Maybe the best actually. But his prime was very short.

I have had it out with many Arsenal fans over Giroud. They all come round to my way of thinking eventually. Especially if we are sat down having the debate while watching Giroud play for 90mins.

I'm starting to lean towards that side too now and it actually sickens me to even type that given the respect I have for Arsene Wenger and what he's done for the club. I said this would be a defining season for him and it's falling flat on its arse.

Someone from the club needs to come out and address why we sold Vermaelen and failed to bring in a CB replacement. Or why he once again failed to sign a defensive midfielder when we've needed one for the past 3 years since Song left. I want to believe that Wenger wasn't the only one behind these moronic decisions.

But you can't defend what's been happening on the pitch. The decision to continually play Mesut Ozil on the wing where he has constantly proved to be a complete passenger. And now playing Nacho Monreal, a midget left-back at centre-half. The lack of planning for the opposition's strengths, the criminally late substitutions to try to change the game and the overall poor performances this season. That is down to Wenger and I can't even attempt to defend him there.

We're pretty much out of the title race in early November. The only chance we have in the Champions League is if we somehow find a new Patrick Vieira and a new Sol Campbell, neither of whom are cup-tied, in January. So yeah this season already looks a bust. I didn't consider the consolation of the FA Cup as being a huge success last year like some (Adam) and I won't again this year.

You've just shat on your own argument. You're merging a debate about a single player who gets unwarranted criticism (seemingly even when he's not on the ***ing pitch!) and a debate about the the club as a whole.

2nd-4th is never good enough. It was understandable when we didn't have the money

Not that we have the money to compete with Chelsea/City/United's spending but we aren't ***ing scraping the bottom of the barrel surely?

It almost seems as if we're only allowed to make one marquee signing per summer....Ozil.....Sanchez. It's like a way to distract the fans whilst the real issues remain unresolved.
