I think cities like Baghdad and Mogadishu would easily beat all Cities named above

Yeah, the actual war zones are probably the worst places.

I would assume readers of the thread would realize bare minimum wasn't the Venice Beach g-string or Paris Hilton skimpy dress bare minimum but I guess I have to spell it out for you.

Bare Minimum: Tatters and remnants of cloth, not even sure if some of it was initially clothing, for adults that contributed nothing but some sense of modesty to the user and often none what so ever for adolescent children.

I add this last part in the grim realization that your reading comprehension might also lead you to induce that when I stated distended stomach's I was referring to gluttonous bellies. But you may rest assured that the form to which I was referring was that which is an indicator of malnutrition.

Some places in Sicily and around the Calabria area are pretty bad. Not only are they mob dominated but there also also Albanian mob and lots of Gypsy gangs that can be very nasty. I dont think the average person on the street experiences a whole lot firsthand but the **** that goes down is pretty ***in cold hearted and brutal.

Northern Ireland ( I suppose it has calmed down quite a lot since the Good Friday agreement) but with paramillitaries controlling the streets, kneecapping and punishment beatings for minor offences. IRA and UVF/UDA blowing each other up and innocent citizens. Riots being a regular occurence. The Army and SAS patrolling the area. Thats gotta be pretty bad to get like that!

I've been to the favelas, they're not as bad as people make out. There are gangs and drug wars, but intertwined with all of this is a sense of respect for the community. A Rio native we befriended told us how a local gang paid for his mother's cancer drugs, something she could not have afforded herself.

I've also visited slums in ****kok, Mumbai, Johannesburg and Cape Town. I never encoutered any trouble throughout all of my travels. People like to create an evil and decripid vision of certain places. It doesn't matter where you travel in the world, it's not the place that's dangerous it's how you conduct yourself. Obviously if you're in a poor area and you're flashing money and rich goods around then yes you will get robbed, but if you conduct yourself in a way that does not attract the wrong sort of attraction then you'll be fine.

Again, another version of media hype. Northern Ireland has had it's share of troubles but by and large it's as safe as any other country in the world. Obviously, if you wrap an Irish flag around you and walk into a Loyalist neighbourhood then you are likely to get a beating. But once you know how to conduct yourself in certain areas it's as safe as any other country.

I believe South Africa has the highest amount of homicide rates in the world. And there's obviously a lot of poverty too. So I guess it would be the thoughest to live there. Especially if you're white.

People should not base their opinions on what they have seen in movies or read in ****zines. Go to these places and you'll soon realise they are not as bad as you envisioned.

Yeah its probably safe, but if you had taken away the army/walls separating the Loyalists and Unionists it could have got pretty bad. I got my info from a work colleague who's from (london)derry. She may have been exaggerating but even half of what she described would still seem alien to the way I grew up, and I dont live on streets paved with gold by a long stretch.
