Barack ***** is no more a black candidate than a white candidate

The guy is equally of both races if we just use his parents for the formula.

So if he gets elected, he wouldn't even be the first black president. I'm actually surprised that a number of our less tolerant posters haven't pointed out that Barack's father was a womanizing alcoholic who was legally married to someone in Africa when he married Barack's mother... and then left her. You would think they'd be using this to put down one race over the other... instead they make fun of *****'s overall heritage - which is kind of weak if you're devising a strategy...

Barack has a black father but was raised by a white mother. He has genes from her too.

So if we're all going to claim a candidate, whites and blacks should have to share *****.

Kind of kills the media hype and all the simple-minded banter, doesn't it?

It's not even about policy - a lot of Black people I know are Hilary supporters.

Young people know multi-racial people and meet new ones all the time... it's 2008 and there's no reason to not start getting used to seeing people of various shades showing up in positions of power, or positions anywhere.

This whole "melting pot" thing isn't just words...

So now you want to denounce the "one drop of blood policy", how convenient.

It wasn't just some racist thought through out the south either, it was made law. You should educate yourself before you try and make topics like this that make no sense.

Barak if elected would be the first balck president, because thats the way whites in the US have viewed race for hundreds of years. Barak was raised in a black household with black culture.

Funny how your black when you are up to no good or get caught doing some dumb ****, the minute you become a powerfull politician or a the greatest golfer in the world, you are "half white"...lol.

I don;'t go by this rule and I doubt the majority of people do..
There are Latino's with a little black heritage in them but they don't consider themselves black and if you asked them what they were.. they wouldn't tell you they were black either.
They would just say I'm Latino from such and such country.

Are you discounting the raising that his mother and his grandparents did? And it's Barack, and the one-drop rule hasn't been in effect for years. As Devious pointed out there are many hispanics with african american heritage that don't consider themselves black, nor are considered black by anyone else.

No, I'm not disagreeing with you on how people percieve THEMSELVES, I'm just saying that the original point of this post was to point out that Barck is more than just black and shouldn't be considered the first black president is he wins.

Blacks have a right to view him as a black man because of the injustices that have gone on with the backward thinking of the "one drop rule".

I wasn't using it as an guide to what should be but more so, what has been accepted and precieved for such a long time in the US. So you can understand when black people look at Barack ***** as more than just a candidate for president, he's a candidate that looks and represents them.

Like I said, people are quick to claim black people when they are mixed race and the do good but the second they are doing something wrong, they are 100% black....I just don't buy that. Barck is black, period end of story.

This is what black voters thought until the Jeremiah Wright issue. ever since then, ***** has been getting 90+ percent of the black vote.

Cuauht, I'm not arguing with you that Barack isn't black, he most certainly is. Just that the one drop rule is no longer in effect and there is racism that exists even among blacks based on darkness of skin and % black. I've heard several blacks on TV talk about how they used to wonder if Barack was black enough, being part of Wright's church helped that significantly.

I get you man, I'm not trying to argue I just think that people neeed to understand that Barack represents something we have never seen in this country....EVER.

So I don't get mad when black people vote for him because he's black because thats all they know right now. I think until we see multiple black presidents and black people feell properly represented, then we can have the discussion of whether to vote for him because of who he is and not what he represents.

Not only do I think that he's the best black candidate ever but I think he's the best candidate of the three left right now. (that might be an insult to him, depending on how you see things)

I think it's disgusting that this election is slowly becoming a popularity contest of race and gender. Woman, Man, Black, or White, who gives a ****? Whoever can address the nations issues the best and convince me they are the best for the job, gains my vote. I don't even see a reason for debates, or campaigning anymore, because mostly everyone votes on image anyways, pathetic.
