If he were comparing only blacks to animals, that could be seen as racist but he isn't. He's saying their suffering is as bad to him as the suffering as any human beings, which is not a racist statement at all.

No it's speciesism. Species has a fairly precise biological definition, race does not. Discriminating on the basis of race has much to recommend against it, discriminating by species does not
