Street Fighter and it's not even close. The originator and most influential fighting game franchise ever.
Another franchise I'll give props to for second place is Samurai Showdown. It's the only one outside of Street Fighter that really has its own identity to me.Last edited by Haglerwins; 08-29-2009, 07:21 AM.

The most complex (deep) 3d fighting game= Virtua Fighter series (without a doubt)
Deepest 2d fighting game= not sure. I know that Guilty Gear is one of the more played titles in Japan because it's deep as well as balanced (due to numerous revisions). From the looks of it, BlazBlue continued the trend.
But I'm gonna' come out and say it, since its release Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 has been my favorite 2d fighting game...hands down. I don't care the fact that it's broken as hell and I can't execute Cable's TKAHVB, or pull out infinites, ROMs or whatever else there is, the game is fantastic! Plus...the marvel scene is absolutely hilarious which adds to my fascination with it!
