    Elbow Pain When Boxing

I've developed a pain in my right elbow (almost like a joint pain) that only hurts when i straighten the arm and feels like something is grinding against something else in my elbow (I'm new to boxing so not sure if normal and body needs to adapt or actually problematic)

    Answers Appreciated

    The problem...

    The therapy...

Search for a clinic that does Trigger point therapy where you live or figure out how to do this to yourself after the selling subsides. Obviously you need to give it rest for now (RICE—Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation).

Man I was gonna post something similar to this except I have even worse issues, so bad I had to stop training for the mean time. My left elbow visually and audibly pops when I do pushups or bend it past 90 degrees. It's like grinding against my ulnar nerve or something and snapping a tendon across because it hurts like all hell sometimes in a nerve pain kinda way. Popping off jabs and hooks isn't too bad for it but if I try a jab from the hip philly shell kinda thing just messing around I can hear it crunch and its awful. I'm probably hyper extending it or something in that case. Anyway I got an ultrasound on it and saw a plastic surgeon after a long referral wait and he said it's not worth operating on yet unless I'm losing grip strength in my left hand or numbness sensations which I don't have yet. I'm guessing I shattered something in my elbow as a teenager skateboarding and ignored it for most of my life like an idiot....

Sorry I don't have any answers but it's most likely an ulnar nerve or snapping triceps issue you have I'd bet, just based on the research I've done personally. Go see a doctor or physio first if you can afford it or live somewhere that has health care.

Dont do full straights or jabs without a bag, tendons and ligaments will keep stretching.

          Just let it rest

Yep, some of the best heavier weight (175lb's up) left jabbers I came up with now have chronic, crippling elbow issues.

It's definitely related to overuse of the left arm...coupled with the old school 'push through the pain' mantra.

Advances in medical science and physiotherapy are startling.

Were it not for the 'grinding' sensation you describe, I'd have thought you were making the very novice mistake of tensing all your arm muscles when punching - I've seen kids do this (they just simply don't know better and assume punching is like punching a heavy weight).
