Another thing I noticed I was doing was leaning back at times when using my jab, to try and avoid being hit but the result was that my jab either wasn't catching or only just catching him but it didn't do much damage at all, then he would rush forwards with punches, him being the faster puncher was then getting the better of me. I also need to work on defending myself in the future when that happens, I was sort of taking punches instead of moving around, need to learn to not just stand there but I think that was due to it being my first time.I need to get better at moving around and away when I begin to get in trouble.
You seem to have a really good understanding for a beginner. One thing which you may already know is when using the heavy bag treat it like an opponent. By that I mean move your feet and practice turning your "opponent". Also when you spar make sure when your moving your not going st8 back that might be why guys are catching you "when they rush in after your jab is short". All it takes is one short turn to make your opponent have to reset and makes it almost impossible from him to throw multiple punches. Anyways it sounds like you have a great attitude for improving. You never mentioned once what your doing right, and seem to be just working on what your doing wrong. Good luck and never let guys use you, that happens a lot in the gym. If a guy is always getting the best of you don't be a tough guy and keep sparring him it will only teach you how to lose. Not to say you should not spar better fighters, just not guys well out of your league.

I've only been learning to box since July so please do go easy on me, don't just call me rubbish with no hope as I'm wanting advice.

What I know I did wrong was that I was too passive, in all honesty I was afraid of being hit too much when we began exchanging as I really didn't want to get knocked out in my first fight, especially as my family was there watching. But I now know that this was mistake one.

Mistake two was that I went in there thinking I could just hide behind my jab and not let him get to me and win on points by that, but I didn't understand that going in there but keeping a distance so he can't hit me but I can hit him was the right thing to do. I was relying on just my jab which costed me.

Mistake three, I wasn't fit enough. I went all rounds but I did spend time moving around and away from him on purpose to catch my breath, I didn't feel completely comfortable in there. If I had better fitness I could have thrown more punches.

Anymore mistakes you guys can point out that I made? But be nice, only been training to box since July, never been in a fight in my life before that.

It was both a debut fight for both of us but he has a bit of experience in kick boxing competitions as you can tell from his stance.

Give me advice on what I need to work on, I knew that throwing over hand rights was working for me in the third round, the third and last round is the only round I felt I had some argument that I won / didn't get beat up in and I felt like I was finding my timing and reach better but by then it was too late to get a win.

But be nice guys, I know I've got a long way to go.
I don't have time right now to watch your fight, but I just wanted to say don't listen to anyone giving you sh it. Anyone who would put down a beginner I can ALMOST guarantee has NEVER been in the ring. No body looks like a star right off the bat. Keep your head up(but your chin down lol). Good luck and ill try to watch your fight later.

I have no idea. He called himself a beginner and was asking basic questions so I just took him at his word. I still have not seen the tape of him fighting, but knowing how a lot of people on here LOVE to bash someone I thought I would try to say something positive to him. He seems like a nice kid, but I'm just basing that on one post. Maybe he is BS and just making things up, but I personally have no reason to question him. Has he been posting stuff like this for awhile?

Yeah he's been posting stuff like this for months. Don't know whether he's trolling. Check some of his posts he comes out with some right rubbish. Hard to know whether he's taking the piss
