I use a 1 lb weighted rope from cross rope for hiit workouts with the rope. It crushes you if you go all out for even 1 minute. Mixing in the burpees is a great workout. Also Longer steady state rope sessions for 20-30 mins with 1/4lb or half pound rope. The heavy ropes make a big difference in working the abs and upper body when jumping, also they add to intensity.

is there something wrong with your knee's... or is it motivation?

some fighters use swimming as a supplement, especially if they have knee problems... and James Toney never did roadwork... but they are exceptions...

Toneys camp started with sparring lol... sparring was his main/only preparation in camp... but you need to realize, that will take it's toll... that is why his speech is slurred, from the thousands of hours sparring

we used to tell kids... run half a block, then walk half a block... repeat

also, you can mix up your roadwork and still get the benefit... so, 4 half-mile runs spread throughout the day... is a 2 mile run

for some, roadwork is very hard.... and the worst part of training... but yea, hard luck... that is what it takes to succeed

if you are cutting corners, and your opponent is not... then he will likely have a significant advantage... you will reap what you sow !

how important is it?... the 2 fittest fighters that I ever saw were Mayweather and Calzaghe... BOTH retired undefeated with a combined record of 96-0... both were freaks who understood exactly how important fitness was

another example... the Diaz boys... those MMA dudes need to train MANY different styles... they have many different coaches... standup, wrestling, bjj, judo, muay thai, etc... and yet, both of those guys spend more time working on fitness than EVERYTHING else combined

get that roadwork done soldier !! no excuses !!
Wilder and Toney are the only two that I can think of that do zero road work, but they're the exceptions to the rule. Wilder does like eight hours a day in the pool instead, and Toney was juste a special fighter.

Road work was my most hated part of training, but I still did it.

Honestly man, so much of stamina is pace and mentality/feeling comfortable.

I've always had great cardio, but still suffered a bit with tiring out when I'd spar from time (mainly against specific opponents) and particularly in fights. It was never an issue as I would fight through being tired, and while it got better with each amateur fight I had it I was still getting tired.

Then I took a fight on 2 days notice with absolutely no training and sparring against an opponent that was 4-0 and I really just worked on my mental going into it. That it was going to fun and easy, that God's blessed me with good cardio and power and durability so there was nothing to worry about. I went in and took care of business, hurt dude, worked at a tremendous pace and honestly never felt tired or gassed.

Then I sparred a 17 fight pro in a tiny ring for 3 minute rds with 30 seconds rest inbetween for 3 rds. And I learned pace after that day. I was baptized by fire that day and I haven't had an issue with stamina ever again.

Also having good defense and high guard can really help you out with being able to take a few seconds off, sneak some breaths and then explode again.

And sprints. I don't really run long distances anymore (used to do like 4 miles every day and 6 on mondays), only sprints a couple times a week. I also barely jump rope, burns out my calves too much on top of all of the other training I do, so I really only jump rope to warm up.
