I would like to become an amateur fighter

I would like to be an amateur fighter as I love to fight.

But how do I know if I'm cut out to it?

Once you find a gym, start training, and when your ready you will be sparring....

When you take a big shot, and I mean a real one where you are a bit dizzy and don't fully know what's going on...you will know then...
You will do one of 2 things
1: you will love it,fight back and boxing becomes a bit addictive to you

2: you will crumble, and decide if you just want to train or give up altogether

The choice is yours my man

Fighting is different to boxing, first of all i hope you dont me throwing a few swings in the street

Anyone can punch a guy with a 5 yard run up who is not expecting it and wont fight back and blind side him

Its hard to fight a guy who is expecting to be hit
Its harder to fight a guy expecting to be hit and who will hit back
Its even Harder to fight a guy expecting to be hit and who will hit back and who is trained in how to fight

Find a gym, do a few classes, have a controlled (I stress controlled) sparring session

As StephenMC states if you take some really get shots, maybe even take a knee from one and you want to get straight back in the ring then you are probably cut out for it

I have been training for 5 months and I like it a lot.

I don't like street fighting because (Do not laugh) I don't like getting involved with the police. I am doing my education right now and I have worked WAY too hard for the years I have stayed out of trouble for way to long to get into a brawl on the street and ****ing everything up by getting something on my record

              Your very late to start.
Doesn't mean it can't be done.
But your at a big disadvantage.
It takes balls to get in the ring at your age, your not used to taking punches, nerves, all the basics, you Will know once you take a big punch that rattles you weather it's something you want to do.

Just remember, if you step up to fight, most people have been doing this since the were very young or early teens

ask to spa with someone who is noticeably better than you, see how you feel afterwards, he doesnt have to punch you hard in the face but you should get an idea of how much you like the scenario

I guess it was a dumb idea. It was just an idea that popped into my head. I guess doing this for fun is good enough in that case. The reason I never started earlier is due to social anxiety.

                    Not dumb at all....

Like i said, it can be done, your just at a disadvantage (unless your a natural)

You ever wonder why boxers start so early...cause it takes time, years, to build a boxer (a competitive one at least)
It's drilled into your head through the years, small things, then by the time their 16-18 it all starts coming together....Their not nervous about being in the ring cause they have done it 100s 1000s of time.
They don't panic when the get hit hard cause they have been getting hit since they were young,so they know how to compose themselves.
Their footwork is good and their punchs are snappy, but most of all, they have the experience and no exactly how to go about things.

Boxing is not really hobby, it is if your just training....but remember this is a full contact sport, have you had your nose broke before? If not be prepared for broken noses and plenty of black eyes and so forth..

I'm not trying to deter you at all, if you think your up for it,give it a go
