Few days ago I had my second sparring session.
First a one minute round against a guy that was good. Great shape, great technique, and two weight classes bigger. I told him hey let's make it light ok? I'm a newbie. He said of course.
I fought like a pussy, kinda scared and threw like 10 punches in total. Tried to outbox from the outside and got against the ropes a few times. And he was good with me, he could have hit me like 50 times and he pardoned me, and hit me light everytime.
So after that, the same guy had to spar against my friend, who is also a newbie, but slightly better than me. My friend went all in, porter mode (I told him to fight like porter cuz he has the same body type) and he had a lot of success, and got the best off this guy that was really good.
So a few minutes later it was my turn again and I sparred one minute against a guy from my weight class. So I wasn't scared this time, he was my size. I said ok I'll go all in, I might have success like my friend did.
So I rushed him with four punches, one two one two, and he got in defensive mode. So I threw like fifteen punches in a row, and he got so defensive and went to the ropes, and I could land an uppercut, then I kept throwing punches like crazy sometimes punches with poor technique and he kept doing nothing but trying to block my punches. Then the trainer stepped in and said ok take some distance.
Then I realized I was terribly tired after that flurry. So tired. He attacked my body twice and though I didn't feel any pain, I felt even more tired and I had problems raising my hands. I quit. Yeah, that happened inside one minute lol.
But after that experience, I'm thinking of going all in, rushing, everytime I can. I had great success. Obviously I have to work on my endurance and I know fighting like that takes some energy, but it's way better than just staying defensive. At least on a newbie level.
