How to get back into shape?

    Hey all,

I just got back into boxing training (2nd day today) after a long break (very long) and I'm no longer in condition as I used to be. First time I've feel heart aches every time I throw combos and I want to get back into condition and it's my first week back and my trainer wants me to spar next week.. I looked at him like WTH?!

Anyway, how long do you think it will take and what exercises can I do to get myself back into boxing condition also what diet/food should I be eating?

    Thanks.

Depends on how much out of shape you are, I always say if u can't run 3 miles in 30 minutes without stopping then you're out of shape and you shouldn't spar more than 2-3 rounds.

I would never let you spar until the soreness of the muscles from the first training week are gone and that you can keep ur hands up for an extended period of time, if your shoulders are still sore/weak then you wont be able to protect yourself, also having good abs is essential so that u can take body punches, u don't wanna go down after the first body shot.

So in summary, if u wanna spar u have to make sure that u can run 3 miles in 30 mins or less, u can do 3-4 rounds on the speed bag and 5-6 rounds on the heavy bag, and that you can do 150-200 sit ups without too much strain.

    Good luck

Get on the jump rope, but your calves will be sore as hell if you just started back. If you have to spar next week swimming will be the only workout that might open your lungs up enough to last and not be so sore. If not just shoulder roll it lol

Just go slow and ramp it up carefully. Boxing can be wicked on the tendons so give them time to catch up with your muscles when jumping back into training. Injury/irritation is the most common way people derail a return to training.

If I had access to a pool swimming would definitely be apart of my routine. Swimming is one of the closest things to boxing. You literally use every muscle. The only downside of it is if you don't swim that often you will be sore for a little while until your body gets used to it.
