How to get pumped for sparring?

Whenever I go in for sparring I always feel like I box like **** because I'm never "excited" for it. I'm sparring tomorrow night and I've been doing a lot of research on the mistakes I'm making and now that I finally feel ready and confident I can't wait. However, I'm almost sure by tomorrow I'll lose the excitement I feel and once again box like ass...

What do you guys do to get in the boxing mood? Music? Motivational videos?

Actually the motivational videos are priceless, music calms me and clears my mind before sparring, and quotes help all day long. Look up Boxing Affirmations, its random but go to

Record your sparring session. When you watch the replay you will pick out your mistakes and it gives you something to look forward to work on.

Your problem is not a unique one, but let me suggest this; your problem isn't that you are not hyped enough, but rather that you are too hyped and your body is pushing back a bit. It's actually a fairly common physiological response feeling loke you're "in mud." I suggest you slow things down and soar a bit at around 20 - 30%. Just work on your reactions, thinking and breathing. See everything and open up the runnel vision. Trust yourself to focus. Fatigue in the ring can be scary. Don't fight yourself, fight the other guy. Lay off any stimulants you may use and eat/rest well. Also, try to spend some quiet time visualizing each day. Good luck. Hope that helps.

Sparring isn't about winning or losing, sparring isn't an actual fight. Sparring is about LEARNING. You shouldn't get pumped for a sparring session because you should remain clear headed so you can learn effectively. In fact, getting pumped, and becoming excited will cause your adrenaline to rush and make you lose control of yourself, and you'll end up fighting like a real match, not able to remember much, and waste a valuable learning experience.

Everybody's different, for me I always feel nervous and uneasy before sparring so I have to calm myself and focus before. Visualizing, meditating, music and breathing techniques help me. I also agree with buddle, I don't think you want to be 'pumped up' before sparring but rather focused and concentrating on the task at hand so perhaps approach it in that manner.

Do you warm up before sparring or just get into it? That could also be something to look at.

What does your trainer have to say to you?
Do you have goals for your sessions?
Excitment is something you don't want, focus and a calm approach to your work load is what you need.
It's difficult to precisely dictate what you need without knowing you because every individual is unique.

It sounds like your looking for a "movie script" concept!
How about the theme from Rocky!!!

If you need inspiration to get in a ring your in the wrong sport.......

                Ray.

I do an hour long training session before sparring, I make sure I have enough energy left though. I've only sparred about 10 times and I'm still getting nervous so I think that has something to do with it. However as soon as I touch gloves I'm comfortable and able to relax, it's just the motivation to get in to the ring knowing I'm limited to 50%

Its just practice man, you are not trying to prove anything or "beat" anyone in sparring. Just working on what you have been learning from your trainer on bags and **** then trying to apply this stuff in a simulation of an actual fight.
