That's because you are just starting out as an absolute beginner. You have no style yet except learning how to keep your hands up and basic head movement. You gotta learn this before you start dropping your hands or showing individual style when you box.

Also let go of the notion that you know anything. Trust me. My style has gone through so many evolutions as I've learned to do things or how I prefer things. If you stick to it you will find out how deep this really gets.

      Yeah no kidding,

When I started and I wanted to emulate JMM bad and I wasn't that bad at it. However after a few fights and many sparring rounds I changed to a more of an inside fight because I was way more efficient and I would set my pace so much easier than when I waited to counter. However I was getting hit with the same punch over and over since it's always a battle of guards because I'm a southpaw.

I would look at fights like Guerrero Katsidis and try to emulate some of what I saw there. Now I've stopped trying to emulate a certain style and just focus on what I'M good at.

A coach can be defensive or offensive minded but a great coach will exploit what you naturally excel on. So yeah Porterisfuture, listen to your coach. He will notice things from the outside you just simply can't. You explore things on your own but when the coach notices it doesn't work, you will have to discard it.

Like someone said, dont get too overconfident already from justt hitting a bag. Because when you step into sparring you will realize hitting a heavy bag is much easier than an actual oppenent who hits back,.

Just take youre time and learn thats all you need to do

Once you get in the ring for hard sparring and actually fight a few times you'd realize, Porter is NOT Future.

Anyhow, good luck, you'll start to appreciate boxing a lot more as you can analyze things from a new perspective.
