Yes its hard to master, and use vs top level guys,,,, floyd and toney make it look easy rolling with the punches, but truth is, it takes alot of coordination, poise, footwork and smarts... You must be totally relaxed and high ring generalship to make it work

You have to have the rhythm, timing and a high iq to pull it off successfully. AB and Berto are too stationary with their legs too far apart. I hate watching them try to use the philly shell.

The Philly Shell defense has monsterous holes in it, you better be one tough mf'er if you're wanting to employ this defense. It's the kind of defense that will allow shots to land in order for you to get yours in........ Rockin'

That's a tough one. I've always enjoyed Pernell, Floyd and Toney. My favorite old school fighter was Pep (defensively).

Pep had the amazing footwork and also slipped and parried punches very well. His defense relied a lot more on movement than the others.

If I had to choose one I would probably go with Pernell.

Yes...... your body control has to be off the charts to use the philly shell. Most dont have the gift

I think some guys just can't do it due to lack of shoulder flexibility. Betro will always be **** it at but realistically he can't even lift his shoulder up to cover his chin it's like he has no flexibility in his shoulders.

It depends on your style and natural attributes...I have added the shoulder roll in to my style and have been practicing it for quite some time now.

Here is me(red) a couple of years ago now in the early stages of using the Philly shell.

I am a lot better now. It took quite some time and one or two tough sessions but I have definitely come a long way since this video.
