    Technique

Hey guys, can you give me some tips on working on technique? Just anything which will help me in general.

Im 5'10, 11 stone, so that should give you a good idea about my physique, however i'll probably end up around 5'11 12.5 stone so what would you say is the best technique for someone of my stature?

Ok, so you're currently around 154lbs. How old are you and are you amateur or pro?

It's hard to give a detailed reply with the info you have given but I would recomend that you develop your jab. The jab is the most important punch in boxing and a fighter with a good jab is dangerous in any weight class.

Develop you're countering skills and overall body conditioning. If you know all the basics, once you have some fighting experiance you will develop a unique style all of your own which reflects your body type, strengths, weaknesses, opposition etc.

    Good luck.

I'm amateur, and 14 years old, so I haven't really filled out into my eventual body type much yet. I have a pretty high muscle mass, which may slow me down but I have good power, and i've only been boxing for about 3 months..

Your 14 and 5'10"? When I was 14 I was like 5'7". Now I'm 6'2" so you could grow a lot! Since you have only being boxing for 3 months, don't worry much about your style, it will come naturally in time. Focus on learning the basics and getting yourself in perfect shape.

I've got my first fight coming up soon. I may grow more, but guys who are my size at my age tend not to grow that much bigger.

Do you think all the great boxers already show their potential by now (three months)? Cos I can already hit as hard as or harder than all the guys in my gym,I guess that's an achievement.

If your 14 and have been doing it for 3 months, then you are not showing you potential. When your 24, fully grown and experianced is when you will be at your best.

Ali won his first fight when he was 12, Jake Lomotta showed potential right from the start. Different people show their potential at different times, but if you are good now then you can only get better!

So what you mean is i.e you couldn't have told Roy Jones Jr would be an awesome fighter for at least a year or so?

Exactly. You can look great training but be terrible in an actual match (and vice verca)

Some great pro's (I think the likes of Jones and Hopkins) did badly in their first fights but with experiance they became better with every fight. See how you are in a year and how far you have improved.

At my gym, the filmed me training and sparring. 6 months later they filmed me again. Watch and compared both tapes and it's amazing how much improvement you can have in such a short amount of time.

If your hitting hard now, then that is good sign!

Yeah, the trainers already say I hit amazingly hard for my age, experience and size, which is cool (and that I could very easily knock people out).

If you can knock people out, you can win a boxing match. Trust your trainers, if they say you have potential then you have potential. Good luck man and keep training!
