I don't think you would have to remold your gum-shield too often - maybe once a month or so depending how much the brace affects the position of your teeth.

What a coincidence, another 'Sugar' on the site with Invisalign!

There are a few things to bear in mind:

          1) There are times in the treatment when your teeth will ache as they are being shifted......you won't want to be punched in the mouth at those times. Certain retainers will do more shifting than others.

          2) Certain teeth, particularly the lower incissors can become a little loose during treatment and can be rocked a mil or so by hand. I wouldn't want to take a punch there until the teeth have really settled and the root becomes strong again.....

          3) Sometimes in the treatment, cement like attachments are fixed to the surface of the teeth to aid with rotation of the teeth, I'm not convinced that they couldn't be ripped off from behind a gum shield. Or that a gum shield would feel comfortable sitting infront. If you were to spar without a gumshield, these attachments could rip boxing/sparring gloves.

          4) Lastly, a fixed brace may become a requirement at some point in the treatment......even if it is not predicted early on. I would completely avoid sparring if you get fitted with one of these.

But best of luck with the treatment, even if you're taking less punches you'll be getting better looking every fortnight. I'm sure any increase in girl attention will help with any depression brought on by taking fewer right hands.
