    Me Sparring [Yesterday + Video]

So I sparred yesterday with this man who was a former professional boxer who broke the ribs of a welterweight fighter who he, himself, competed in the lightweight division, so it was a tremendously awesome experience for me. So anyways, I'll post some videos and I'd appreciate it if some of the boxing experts out there could give me some constructive critiques on improving. This was my first sparring today and I can see I am throwing arm punches most of the time, will this be corrected if I keep on practicing?

I'm the guy with the blue headgear/gloves and black tanktop and pants.

P.S. AT the first part where the coach hit me I was asking him if the punch I threw before was a low blow, because I was curious. Shouldn't have asked him during sparring though.

    Thanks everyone, and god bless!

      Nice videos!
I don't know if I would call that sparring or an sparring exercise.
The guy you sparred with did nothing and was basically a wandering punching bag.

It is easy to lock good when someone does nothing.
I noticed you circled to his right hand the whole time which can be dangerous as **** especially if you throw lazy jabs.

You looked good but then again it is easy to feel comfortable when your sparring partner doesn't throw nothing and lets you punch him.
You did arm punch a bit but you looked very fluid in your combinations which really impressed me.
You had very little head movement which your coaches never taught you so that it isn't your fault.

You threw your punches from the hips a little bit which leaves you open for counters. You left your punches out a little bit but all and all it looks really good.
I tell you right now, a couple more sparring sessions and you will easily improve all of this .

You show a lot of promise and you are a hard working kid.
Keep improving keep working hard and maybe try another gym.

BTW I think you should ask to have a real sparring session so you can work on your defense and overall game.
When you have to worry about punches and you spar someone in your own lvl it improves you tremendously .

BTW BTW you look a lot more relaxed then before and you looked a much more loose. You are still a little tense but I see a lot of improvement in it.

I would say mix it up. You constantly throw the 1,2, left hook. It is all very predictable. Your jabs are also very predictable.

Another issue is that way the sparring went overall like the poster above me mentioned. It was at like 10-20% of a real sparring session and your opponent didn't really do anything except let you hit him.

You look good in terms of boxing and combinations. Very good short, tight left hook. You just need to use your hips and core a bit more to create more torque and power.

Only major flaw I saw was that you constantly looked down at the ring mat, that leaves you open for uppercuts and punches you won't see.

BTW is that winning headgear the FG2900?

Your opponant was going very very easy on you, and you seemed pretty content to just throw a one two left hook combination lightly whilst aiming at his gloves and arms...

In other words it looked liked you were unwilling to throw hard shots at his head and he responded by just taking it real easy on you and catching you with soft shots, and then letting you hit his arms and gloves.

Since its your first spar though I guess its a good way of getting into it, although I wouldnt really call that sparring. You left your left hand quite low alot of the time aswell and you were pretty much constantly open for a big straight right.

ha ji me ma shi te

i can tell you aint tryin to hurt each other, but you guys are taking the lovetaps to far, you need to add more power and speed, just not full power, can't really take much from this, but you do need to dip more for the left hook to the body

next session amp it up a bit

Pretty much what Ugh said but to a greater degree.

When you spar, you have to mean it. You don't have to attempt to knock someone out but sparring is to emulate the real thing. Not throwing punches with meaning or not throwing punches with the intent to land on your opponent's body is useless sparring.

You need to fix your mind set when sparring. I can't/won't critique your technique and etc. as this is a bigger issue than anything else. In your next sparring session, act like your in a professional fight. Throw with the intent to land, move with the intent to set up or avoid punches. Otherwise it's wasted training. Ya know?

watch your head dude, keep your hands back at your face after you throw. your left temple would of gotten a battering. But fair play man, your in the ring mixing it up and learning. Rome wasn't built in a day, good effort
