    Getting hit HARD!!

Question, is it a good idea during sparring to go against a heavier guy that hits extremely hard so that someone can get use to the hard blows?

At first I thought this was ******, but then I thought about it and it doesn't seem like a half bad idea.

If you are a decent boxer with good defence and some sort of experience, it can be fine.

All I've ever really sparred is heavier guys, some very strong ones too. It gives you confidence, because I fight at 110lbs, so if I can spar a guy who weighs 150 lbs and is very strong and hits hard, I know that no one at my weight (or the divisions above) has a chance in hell of hurting me or knocking me out.

No its a bad idea, ever look into the world water speed record? currently 318 MPH set in 1978 has yet to have been broken. Know why? cause the guy didnt set out to hit 318 mph he set out to hit something like 200 then tried alittle faster then faster then faster then faster then faster then faster then faster then faster over years until he got up to 318 making the current water speed record. all the people that set out just to beat it die or crash very badly.

sparring some one bigger then you is a good idea only after your comfortable with getting hit by people your own size. you should build up your chin slowly if you just jump right into really hard hits your more then likely going to pull something in your neck, experience headaces or dizzyness, or even damage/break your jaw.

I spar mostly cruiserweights and heavyweight and I have to say when I spar someone smaller I really don't feel the hits. I just go through them. Am I invincible to lower weightclasses? Hell no.Haha but it helps to get used to a bigger hitter then a smaller one then moving up. Then again anyone can hit anyone with a hit on the button and it's goodnight.

            This is true.

I've been through it before when I lacked the experience and I ended up with a black eye, swollen jaw which I felt really soft and it hurt whenever I chewed.

Luckily it was nothing worse, that guy did hit hard though. No doubt.

Sparring bigger guys is ok as long as your not getting hurt. If your doing this to get used to taking hard blows forget about it. One guy said that if he's taking the shots from a bigger guy that he could never be ko'd by a smaller guy. Thats pure bul****, the ones that knock you cold are the ones that you dont see coming. And as for the spar heavy guys so I get used to having my brain jarred by heavy people do this for me, lots and lots of neck exercises to build it strong. Theres a whole thing about what happens with your body/nerves when you get ko'd, but I really dont feel like getting into that.

I can understand that it can be hard to find guys your size to spar with, look for the same experience too and it seems impossible to find. So spar who you have and work smart. But smart is not thinking that sparring way bigger guys wil help you take shots better.

I fought anybody who may trainer threw at me. I was a welter/jr.middle and I fought plenty of heavyweights. The thing with the heavies was that they did have alot of force in their blows, but never the snap that the lighter guys had. The hardest hitting guys that I threw with were guys my size or slightly smaller. Bronco McCart and Tony Rodrigues remain the hardest hitters I threw with. It wasnt that they were so strong but rather that they had a snap on their shots and were fast. The ones that get you are the ones that you dont expect or dont see coming. These guys got them there fast, the heavyweigts I could always see them coming in....................Rockin'

it all depends how ur gym works...

most important thing is that u n ur sparring partner r going at same pace. when one picks up the pace the other follows. if ur over matched n mis mattched n they r just beating on u , it might not do too much good for ya.

you spar bigger people but your allready comfortable sparring people your own size.
