In my first week sparring I cracked a rib fighting a guy about 60 lbs heavier than me. I didn't know how to protect myself properly, and got caught. Wasn't that I was *****, or that I couldn't take the heat. I wanted to get back in there the next day but I was sidelined for about 8 weeks. It would have helped to have some protection in that area until I learned the ropes. Just throwing some advice out there for a beginner. Not everyone is superman like you. Let me guess, you spar without headgear and a cup right?
Calm down dude, lol. Post wasn't directed to you as a fighter, I just never seen anyone in a gym use that thing before, been to many gyms and never seen it. I would've never gone back to your gym if I was you, I mean your coach trying to get rid of you? You can sparr a bigger guy but obviously gotta be ready to do so. He should've taught you how to defend yourself in the first place and how to block a damn body shot that's for sure.

If you're sparring with bigger a guy who has good control and understands that he should pull his punches a bit or can work with you, EG. you can work on getting on the inside, while he works on his boxing or something like that. In that type of situation you're ok. If you're going in there full blast then it probably isn't a good idea and you'll probably get hurt.

If you want to know how it feels to get disoriented from a big hit there are different/ safer methods to do that.

Yeah, exactly the trainer was trying to get rid of me because the money that I was giving him wasn't green enough. Gimmie a break. I did learn the basics first, and the guy I sparred was even less experienced than me, but boxing takes a long time to master, and even guys who "defend themselves in the first place and know how to block a damn body shot" still get their ribs cracked.

I'm no Homicide Hank, but I've definitely given the business to some ****y mutha ****ers bigger than me on a couple occasions.

16oz. I just had a weak core and was scrawny at the time. When I came back I did use something similar until I gained confidence and my ribs fully healed.

Like this other guy said, if you can't handle the heat then stay out of the kitchen
