    heavy bag weight question

my heavy bag is about 20 kg (40 pounds) and i put some weights in it (about 15 kg) and after a few weeks it started to hurt my hands and wrists.
i heard that hitting a bigger heavy bag can help your power so what weight should i have it at?
    please give advice.

if your trying to develop power, any bag over 80 lbs will do to start.

anything under that is for Technic.

are you sure your bag is not a speed bag,i think you have the bags confused, when you hit the bag are you swinging like you are trying to swat a fly,why are your hands hurting, there is something strange going on,any way good luck with your supposedly heavy bag

some of those 40 lb bags are hard as a rock. I've almost broke 2 of my knuckles on one. It's like some parts are soft and some are rock solid.

I usually work a 100-150 lb bag at my gym though. I like a weight similar to my opponent/weight class.

Wrist pain, when considering the weight of a heavy bag, is usually the result of lazy punch technique. If this is the case try slowing down whatever combinations you are throwing on the bag and concentrate more on form. Silly as that may seem even those with a great deal of experience can be prone to making amateurish mistakes, including sloppy form.

Hand pain is frequently the result of bad wrapping or insufficient padding in the gloves. If you’re using bag gloves it may be time to replace them, if you’re not using bag gloves then you should start. It’s also possible that you’re throwing punches so fast that your body isn’t built to handle the impact, if that’s the case stick with a lighter bag and develop your power with other methods.
