What mouthpiece do you guys use?

the best protection is to keep your hands up and work on a good defense.
any mouthpiece that will keep our teeth intact will do.

Alot of people will recommend a custom one from the dentist/some online do it yourself kit but in my opinion the best protection comes from one of the top and bottom style ones.

I use a Brain Pad Pro + Plus and love it. With single guards, if you get hit with say an uppercut, your bottom teeth are slamming right into the mouthguard. With the double style, there's padding and space between. It also keeps your jaw aligned properly even when you're tired and breathing hard.



It's definitely not as comfortable as a custom one (or even a standard boil and bite), and it's hard to talk with it in, but it feels so much better when you get hit. In my opinion anyways.

Invest in a custom mouthguard....believe me.

Instead of having to clamp down on your Boil N Bite all the time....you practically have to PULL the custom guard off of your teeth. This is what the pros use...

You get what you pay for...$1 boil N bite or a $100+ custom..

then again, there are guards that are in the middle..Shockdoctor's for $20-$30

If you are going to use a boil n bite, don't get this one. That hard black plastic will end up cutting you up inside your mouth when you get hit, and the gel slowly erodes. Shock doctor has a cheaper one, smaller, black in color...with less of that plastic that is better suited for boxing. Costs like $9.

But yea...a custom is the way to go. They feel paper thin but provide as much or more protection, allowing for a tighter jaw and better oxygen.

The brain pad pro...used it once when I forgot my custom for a show on the road...and it was like I was sticking a ski boot in my mouth. Not sure how anyone can wear those. You try a custom I assure you you'll wonder what you were thinking with that thing in short order.

It definitely takes some getting used too because it's bigger.

I had a custom one before, but got the brain pad because I messed my nose up and needed to be able to breathe through my mouth while still keeping my jaw clenched.

It's certainly nowhere near as comfortable as a custom one, but I love the extra protection. Even if my nose gets fixed (which it won't be for a while if it ever) I won't go back to custom. Unless someone makes a custom top and bottom one that isn't too expensive.

okay, I got ya. I can understand with the nose issues. Yea...it is more just a huge shock going from something so thin, to so big. And is same the other way, going from say a brain pad to custom. It feels paper thin and like you aren't protected...but most top trainers assure me the protection is atleast as good.

Hasn't been giving me any problems for a while. Doctor said no point doing surgery if I'm going to keep boxing because it could happen again. Only way I can see myself getting surgery any time soon is if it gets so bad that I can't breathe through it normaly (when I'm resting). Right now it only affects me when I try to breathe through it during heavy exercise. I get tired real quick because I can't get enough air. Breathing through my mouth fixes that.

Go with a custom from the dentist.

You have no idea how much it helps. I've been through sparring sessions where I didn't get hit particularly much with a store bought mouth guard and my jaw and neck are sore.

And I've also gotten hammered before with a custom guard and nothing hurt but the punch.

To me it's a must have for boxing. Besides, you want the best possible protection for teeth that your going to have for the rest of your life.
