    Started training Cuban style

I have found another gym not far away with some of the best Ecuadorian Amateurs (mostly afro-ecuadorians) and a Cuban coach. The best thing is there are some quality boxers around my weight so we can mutually benefit from sparring.

The problem is the training is exactly based on Cuban training. Before you start you need to stand in a line, tallest to shortest, while the two coaches give a motivational speech for about 20 + mins, then the boxers say something I cant quite catch and clap their hands, like in the cuban documentary.

The training is quite good but it works out to 2.5 hrs because at the finish, we have to stand in a line and get another 20 + minutes or more motivational speech about giving your all, making sacrifices etc. Unfortunately I like to go to the gym, train hard for about 1hr 20-30 mins and then get the hell out.

It was a fairly intensive experience me being the only gringo and interesting but they train 6 days a week so thats about 4 hrs + just standing in a line listening to the coaches speeches!

Just have to see if a can put up with it a couple times a week to get the sparring and train at my other gym the rest of the time where I can do my own thing.

Sounds like a good opportunity. Do you actually understand what they're saying during the speech, or is it a complete waste of your time?

so far fairly straightforward, warm ups (speech!) shadow boxing/skipping, very light sparring, bag work, then circuit training - 30secs on then 30 secs off -punching with weights, then next station - chins, push ups, jumping side to side over a bench, dips, mokey bars, triceps dips, sit-ups, speedball, weaving under rope, etc. Only just started at this gym, but my other gym also does the speech thing but I do my own training there.

Sounds like they do alot of variety at the new gym depending on which day - sparring, sprints, (he 200,400, 800 thing), weights also - but I dont know what that will be.

The training isnt hardcore strict and disciplined but has a real seriousness to it. I dont catch all the trainer says he talks Spanish quite fast with Cuban accent but I understand most of it. I will keep you posted if I can put up with the speechesand keep going there!

40 minutes of motivational speeches per training session would annoy the hell out of me

Interesting, but there's no way I could stand 40m of speech every day of training. To me it's torture.

But it should be nice if you can endure it, even if it's a BIG if.

                  Good luck.
