    bad wrists... hurt AGAIN

for the past like 12 months my wrists have been SHOT.. like always sore always cracking when i move them a lot.. and constantly getting hurt.. and recently i just hurt my left wrist again bad...

i know when i started training i used no wraps and only ****ty 16 ounce gloves... hard hard bag too.. so i know damage is done.. my docter said my hands n wrists will get use to it as i progress in the sport...

but i dunno if it may be im not wrapping my hands n wrists tight enough.. possibly throwing my left hook wrong , breaking the wrist ?? or maybe i just have above average power and itll cause a problems for the wrists as time passes...

the injurys mainly occur after long heavybag workouts.. but its a everyday thing. what do u guys think and what should i do

        Boxing doesn't ruin your wrists, might get a sting every so often if you throw a bad hook or something. So for you;

        A) Damage could just be done, no matter what you do, you've hurt your wrists by, sorry for this, being an idiot and not using wristwraps. People always think wristwraps are 'weak', or that they can build up their bone density without them etc. etc, many people think they're for your knuckles which is why people buy 16 oz. gloves and don't wear wraps, thinking they'll be ok. I put most of my wraps around my wrists, knuckle does get some extra protection but you're talking you wrap the knuckle another 3 times on top of the wrap on the hand, that doesn't take alot of fabric.

        B) Are your wraps elasticated? I've had some crap ones and they were accceptable but over a prolonged period things started to hurt abit.

        C) Remember wraps serve your wrist more than your knuckle! Yes it protects your knuckle, wrap your knuckle 3-5 additional times, or use the ribbon method, even still, with 180" wraps you'll have plenty to do your wrists. I take the wrap a few inches up my forearm, offers more security.

I do the same bro, I really concentrate supporting the wrists more than the knuckles. I've never had a problem with my knuckles. Some guys at my gym use a bit of sponge under the wraps to protect the knuckles.

I've only ever hurt my wrist from a dodgy hook like you mentioned

OK .... listen to this guy ... he knows what he is talking about!!!!

more seriously .. be wary .... i have seriously damaged my wrist (right) and have had to totally give up heavy bag work . although my injuries were NOT sustained through boxing it has had a massive impact on my ability to train on the bags and even the weights. Like you i have above average (way above) power in my punches and the wrist cannot sustain the power of the punch hitting the bag or when im bench pressing ... it sucks but hey i was never gonna be pro or anything i just love the sport and the training... but if you are serious about the game see a specialist and make sure you follow the wrapping advice above

buy a couple of stress balls to have in the car and play with them while driving. Wrap your wrists with mexican wraps and ask a good trainer to wrap you up with alot of wrist support and emulate his style...

              ice helps as well afterward..

Wrap your hands very well every time. If your not happy with the job you did then start over and rewrap them, sometimes I rewrap my hands 2 or 3 times. I dont have wrist problems even though I hit hard, know why? I work my grip, wrists and even fingers 3 times a week to prevent that **** from happening. Theres lots you can do:

towel pullups (this is awesome for your grip)
fingertip pushups or supports for time
farmer carries (a good one too but its hard to find heavy enough dumbells)
                knuckle pushups
                wrist rollers
                wrist curls
                sledgehammer swings
                sledge levers
pinch two weight plates together and hold them for as long as possible (you can use a door and lean back to create pressure too)
try just picking up heavy **** that doesnt have a proper hand hold like large rocks

Theres no good reason for not training your grip anybody and everybody can benifit from it. Especially us boxers, a tighter fist hurts more, a stronger wrist makes impact more solid AND prevents us from breaking it.
