What kind of weight training?
Its probably circuit training opposed to regular body building.
Take Randy Couture for example.
That is the weight training used, but I try not to make the connection between that and conventional body building. The muscles are worked in a completely different way. It is a whole different process and frankly, every top level athlete does this.

Bench press does very little for your punching power.
I would imagine he may encorperate deadlifting into his regime, and definetly weighted pullups.
Those can come with circuit training too.

I will again stress that this works your muscles in a different way. You will not build mass efficiently so I would not really call this body building.

You don't seem to realize that besides circuit training and body building, there is also a form of weight lifting called "strength training," which doesn't aim to add muscle mass like body building, or endurance like circuit training. It's quite a peculiar phenomenon, but it does exist. Welcome to the 21st century (and the 50 years of the 20th...)

Circuit training targets strength endurance, not maximum strength, which is the normal definition when people just use the word strength on its own. So no, circuits are not that effective for building strength.
