Not really. It's been said that a "great" little man can beat a good big man; and I think when Jones and Toney both beat Ruiz, it was a case of two great litte men beating an average big man.

Tarver and Hopkins, a great little man beating a good bigger man; but Toney showed in his last fight that he is in decline....least that's what I saw; and Peter's a good big man with a big punch.

So, no, I don't think the addage has been disproven as much as we've seen some exceptional fighters.....it's not like we saw Jones against Lewis or Toney against Klitschko.

I categorically agree. Ruiz is an average heavyweight, in fact he debuted as a cruiserweight. James Toney and Roy Jones knew what they were doing by picking to fight Ruiz.

One thing I have quarrels with is Peter's ability to land punches. He is not an accurate puncher, and will waste alot of unnecessary energy trying to land shots on Toney. However, Toney did show a vulnerability against Rahman as a bigger, stronger man was able to wear him down just with physicality. Peter's 257 will inhibit his own performance, but how much will it hurt Toney's? This is not the easiest fight to pick.

What I meant by quarrels is that I disagree, or find it hard to come to terms with, Peter's ability to land consistently on Toney. Some words can be used in more than one way, I'm serious LOL.

i think this fight is gonna be just like toney vs rahman toney is still over weight so hes gonna tire by the 6th round so toney better pray that peter is just as tired as well or else toney is gonna get floored

Peter weighed 256.5 for his last fight vs. Julius Long, but Long did not stay erect long enough-- he was KO'd in the first.

Peter knocked down Robert Hawkins in the first but had to go the full 10 rounds last December. He weighed 250.5. It may have helped somewhat both Hawkins and Peter that the fight was delayed for ten minutes after the fourth round because of a ringside incident where a member of the audience collapsed and had to be taken to a hospital.

These are the only times, before now, that Peter officially weighed in excess of 250 lbs.

Toney has officially registered the numbers that are four pounds less than he did against Rahman. His late round performance in the Rahman fight indicated he was losing some steam. One can only guess what difference four pounds can make against a heavier hitter that is Peter, who, although never known for pinpoint accuracy, can still jar James with punches to the arms and can make Toney arm-weary.

Toney of course can counter Peter's wide punches with his lightning fast hands, but what if Peter eliminates the space Toney needs to counter by laying his 6'1 frame and its (more than) 257 lbs. weight on the rope-a-doping Toney as he ****s away? Toney can grab and get a reset from the ref. But grabbing and grappling with a guy who is at least 20 pounds heavier can take its toll. Of course James managed the grappling master John Ruiz quite well, but, then, he did not have to deal with a punch the type of Peter's. Besides, Ruiz, then, weighed only some 8 pounds heavier than Toney, not 20.

I like Toney to win; but lately, I've not been getting what I like and that's not only speaking of boxing.
