The Ring: Spence/Pacquiao could result in lineal welterweight champion being crowned

Reminder: historically, anyone who holds The Ring championship, despite not a letter org belt recognized by the IBHOF, is also recognized as lineal champion.

The last lineal champion was Manny Pacquiao, before he lost it when he lost to Horn. Horn never won it because Horn was not sufficiently ranked by The Ring. Right now it's vacant.

A fight between Spence and Manny could change all that (and no, Spence/Crawford isn't happening. You know it won't, not before Spence/Manny does.)

If a fight between the Nos. 1 and 2 contenders can not be made and No. 1 fights No. 3, the winner may be awarded THE RING belt if the Editorial Board deems the No. 3 contender worthy.

Here are the seven situations in which a champion can lose his belt:
The Champion loses a fight in the weight class in which he is champion.

Manny, being a former champion and having since had great success, would certainly be deemed worthy.

How exciting is that? Errol Spence, Lineal Welterweight Champion after 4-5 years.

The ring has no more authority to crown a lineal champion than anyone else. Lineal is kind of meaningless anyway. I guess when the majority of the boxing world considers a fight as the real champion that is as close to lineal as you can get. This unbroken chain of the man who beat the man never works because often nobody beat the man and the man retires. You cannot be the undisputed champ until you have all the belts. The winner of a Spence vs Pac fight still has to deal with Crawford to be either lineal or undisputed no mater what Ring says. When big time promoter Oscar purchased the ring it lost much credibility.

      Nope.

Tyson Fury kept his lineal regardless of Joshua.

Teofimo became lineal when he beat Loma, regardless of Tank or Ryan or Devin.

It doesn't matter what fans say. The holder of The Ring belt in the division WILL BE lineal champion.

Not even Ring believes Ring controls lineal

Anyway, ring did strip Fury for inactivity. So if you do take Ring for the ultimate authority on line then Fury got stripped after Wlad and won it again when he beat Wilder.

Yes/No: Is Tyson Fury lineal champion?

Manny was never lineal, if he was then that would mean Crawford would be lineal...

No. Horn was unranked by The Ring when he fought Manny and Crawford was lower than #3 when he fought Horn, who was #5.

If you read what I wrote, lineal went vacant when Manny lost to Horn.

Ring has nothing to do with Lineal championship. The Ring belt is The Ring belt. Ring stopped even giving championships in the late 80's and started doing it again in the early 00's so by your logic, there's twenty years with no lineal champions.
