Oscar De La Hoya weaknesses?

I watch fighters old and new and look for weaknesses. I can usually find them, but Oscar De La Hoya is an unusual boxer. I feel like he did nothing great but did everything good.

He had good speed, solid power, good defense, threw nice combinations, good footwork and a great chin. I truly can't find any weaknesses in De La Hoya.

What were some DLH weaknesses?

He could be outsped.

He could do 12 rounds smooth, not hard. Which meant he could be outworked.

Defence was good, but not great.

Nothing glaring there, and things that could only be exploited at elite level really.

He was a tremendous fighter

oscars weakness is his stamina. and his inability to control the center of the ring vs a technical boxer. hes got every punch in his bag but quicker hands and head movement leads to swings and misses and him exhausting himself out.

He could do 12 rounds smooth, not hard. Which meant he could be outworked.

Defence was good, but not great.

Nothing glaring there, and things that could only be exploited at elite level really.

yup. only thing id differ in is that even some mid level guys gave oscar issues. guys like felix sturm and ricardo mayorga for a bit of their fight.

His main weakness, which I know, from observation, also from comments made every so often by boxing writes of yesteryear. Is that he dislikes punches to the body. The writers used to make jokes about "Oscar's chest protector", because his protector was always unusually high, and would often work it's way up further during a fight.

You may observe in the second Mosley fight, that Mosley was mainly throwing single heavy body punches, causing Oscar to crouch lower and lower. I myself recall writing in a post here, that I was expecting to see Mosley's fist come right through Oscar's body and back.

Time may have distorted my recollection of the fight a bit, which is only to be expected, but thati s what I know and recall.
