Comments Thread For: Canelo-Yildirim WBC Super Middleweight Title Fight Heads To Sept. 21 Purse Bid

Should present plans hold form, there is a great chance that boxing will forever remember the 21st day of September. With the allotted negotiation period expiring without a deal in place, an ordered super middleweight title fight between Saul Canelo' Alvarez and Avni Yildirim will now head to a purse bid hearing. The World Boxing Council (WBC) ordered the fight on August 18, after the Board of Governors approved by a vote of 36-1 to allow Alvarez to challenge for the available title.

Laughable fight for Canelo...a waste of time and training! WBC is pathetic.

Don’t think Canelo gives two fùcks about WBC nonsense right now, in case they haven’t noticed.

What a waste of precious time after Covid. Atleast fight GGG or Joe Smith jr.

In all seriousness, wouldn’t Haymon want to make Eubank Jr. vs Yildirim 2?

This would give Haymon the flexibility to finally have a British Champion in the 168 ranks and troll Eddie Hearn. This would get BJS and Smith automatically talking about Eubank.

So, Haymon should give Yildirim a significant purse at all costs and BET on Eubank to spark him again.

This gives PBC another star since they’d want to make Charlo fight Eubank Jr. for the 168 WBC.

These are all practical since they’re all PBC. The question is does Yildirim want to avenge that loss and will his manager Oner want to take that task again? They could be honestly shook of Eubank. Their original fight was at 168...

Wasn’t he on board w this fight ? The only reason it’s not happening is because DAZN rejected it, but he actually wanted to fight for this vacant title.

WBC has mandated this fight? Do the fighters get a say? Does Canelo even care about this belt and/or fight? Do the boxing fans care for that matter? Now would have been a great time to give all those alphabet belts the middle finger and do away with all these "champions" in the same weight classes.

People seem to have forgotten that fact. GBP & Canelo tried to make that fight. That was beyond a joke. Had Dazn let it be that fight would have probably happened this month.

it wasn’t even presented to DAZN as an option. They said they wouldn’t approve of it, but GB never officially asked DAZN to stage it
