SRL defeated legends who were in their prime while Floyd did not. This question is an insult to SRL.

We’ll never know. I’ll say this though with exception of Hearns and Duran, I’ve observed that Leonard fought a bunch of sitting ducks. For all the praise Wilfred Benitez got, he fought a dumb fight against Leonard. Every punches he threw were telegraph, he didn’t probed the jab/feints to offset Leonard’s forward aggression and was constantly off balance. He did had moments against Leonard when he used the jab, but even then he gave him the same look over and over and lost the fight.

Leonard was a natural welterweight and never moved up like cotto, ODLH.

Operative words "12 rounds". Leonard went 15, unlike any active fighter on the entire planet today. And Oscar does not have remotely the same speed as Leonard, nor the power. And the competition of either Oscar or Floyd didn't compare to Leonard. Leonard by UD. Not a single welterweight since Leonard would have been able to have wins over the big 4 in Benitez, Hearns, Duran, and Hagler. Hearns knocks out anything at 147 since.

Leonard could fight on the back foot , could use footwork in and out , could make a counter puncher lead , and could hunt you down and finish you and Cus damato actually called leonard the best finisher since a prime joe Louis.
There is no scenario that the Mayweather who beat Oscar or cotto can beat the leonard that defeated hearns in 1981.

Was watching Leonard-Hearns I yesterday. Tommy hurt Ray in that fight. No surprise; Hearns was a killer. But as you say, Leonard had a very dependable chin. Like Ali, Ray’s speed, style, charisma and looks made people overlook the fact that he was a very tough man.

the visible sigh that leonard was hurt was against Duran where you see his legs go....I’m sure there were many moments in the hearns fight where he hurt leonard but leonard never showed it visibly
After all hearns was 32 -0 with 30 knock outs and probably the most fearsome puncher in the history of the welterweights.

That can be said about practically anyone. The greats fought what was available. Leonard took on Duran three times, Hearns twice, Hagler and Benitez once. That alone is enough, but Leonard also fought a few respectable fighters along the way, including Donny Lalonde and Ayub Kalule.

Remember that Benitez was fighting arguably the second best welterweight of all time, behind “Sugar” Ray Robinson. It’s easy to say, he should’ve done this and he should’ve done that. It’s another thing to carry it out.

No, you saw it. Lol But, of course, Ray weathered the storm, overcame early difficulties and scored a historic come-from-behind victory.

Hearns was a stellar boxer and murderous puncher. The fact Leonard fought him as well as he did speaks volumes. I tend to agree that Ray was arguably just below Robinson, but Tommy was only twenty-two in their first meeting (Leonard was twenty-five), and was apparently weight-drained. A prime, solid Hearns might’ve very well beaten Ray in that first encounter.

prime floyd got wobbled against judah and corley. prime leonard was never as hurt as floyd and he fought much better competition. if we had floyd vs other prime greats we could compare but alas we dont have that and yet he still loses the chin battle. why are you giving him fantasy advantages he clearly hasn't earned?
