Comments Thread For: Tony Bellew Backs Anthony Joshua To Beat Tyson Fury

Former champion Tony Bellew cautions that "styles make fights" - which is why he is backing WBO, WBA, IBF, IBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua to topple WBC champion Tyson Fury - if they ever meet in a unification.

Of course he does. The best part is when Hearn and Tony hug each other emphatically whenever AJ wins a fight. Those moments make me cry

The thing is AJ vs Fury stylistically is a very different fight to Fury Vs Wilder and Klitschko

Both Klitschko and Wilder largely look for the big right hand from outside, granted Klitschko has a way better jab and accuracy.

But Joshua can fight inside and can be devestating up close with those explosive barrages

I make Fury the favourite, but honestly, we have had two heavyweight title fights, in fact 3 actually THIS LAST 12 MONTHS that have made most folk look dumb. So I would be real wary of making bold predictions for this one either way.

        Boo, he's sticking by Matchroom.

Well, he's basically the only one so far, and he's just sticking by his typical pattern in doing so. I still don't think Joshua would fare much better than Wilder, if at all.

What? Even Wallin did better than Wilder. Wilder didn't belong, looked like a complete novice.

I think Fury wil use the Wilder 1/Wlad gameplan and jab + move his way to a comfortable UD. If he tries to walk Joshua down he'll be taking needless risks.

Very well put. If it was so easy the sport wouldn’t exist and generate the money it does. Top guys have tons of wins and few losses and we can imagine how each side can win because we’ve seen it before. AJ can fight on the inside, especially when he gets comfortable, has a good uppercut, a rare punch. Fury is a man mountain though, AJ fights down to his opponents, so an inside battle is more doubtful with Fury being taller. AJ just had success on his bicycle also which I don’t see working as well vs Fury, but also hard for AJ to change up. I see more scenarios with Fury winning than AJ. Does AJ have the nerve and team to get him to attack Fury and trade after getting KOd by Ruiz and winning the rematch by moving? It will be perplexing for them. He will need the nerve Fury showed vs Wilder. I liked the jump on Ruiz in the first fight, just didn’t work out.

Joshua is better in every department than Wilder excluding Wilder has a bit more power on his straight right hand.

You've never seen Joshua dropping multiple rounds to an opponent the calibre of Otto Wallin, Artur Szpilka, Eric Molina etc.

He had a catastrophe against Ruiz (who is far better than those listed names) but as far as consistency goes you have to give that to Joshua.

I'd pick Fury to win but I wouldn't be AT ALL surprised if Joshua beat him, not at all.

Although I'm happy for Fury that he's ripped the belt from Wilder, I'm more of a Joshua fan simply for the way he's conducted himself throughout his career so far. Fury has been a lot better since his comeback though and has stuck to banter rather than the sort of bigoted comments he was making back when his head wasn't screwed on right, so fair play to the big lad for that.
All that being said, if the Fury that blitzed Wilder shows up I think he'd beat Joshua but it'd be a lot closer. Joshua is the bigger puncher of the 2 and would need to start fast, maybe put Fury down a few times early because if it goes the distance Fury has the better boxing brain and would win the last 3 or 4 rounds hands down.
