Im Not Impressed with Valero

From the descriptions on this thread, it seems to me that Valero has the subtlety and finis of a wrecking ball. But, like a wrecking ball, he gets the job done.

He's had only 20 pro fights, and even that number cannot be taken at face value, given that he dusted off most of his foes in the first round, with only Mosquera and one other going beyond the initial canto. It can be said that he has only fought the equivalent of one 12-round fight (36 minutes)-- more or less-- in his entire pro career. Surely not much time to hone skills under real fight conditions.

That lethal punch is what Valero brings to his fights. And, that's a lot.

But with that said, it must quickly be added that fans have been disappointed before by huge punchers. Mugabi, among others, swifly comes to mind.

Note should also be made on the third round KD by Mosquera who has dispatched only half his previous opponents before the full schedule (12KO's in 24 Ws), with only Yodsanan Sor Nanthachai as foe with a reconizable name (Mosquera floored the Thai three times, but was himself KD'd once, on the way to winning by UD, and wresting the WBA title).

i can upload that maxboxing gym wars for you guys, but don't get carried away with Valero's performance against Morales, El Terrible was working on his timing and counterpunching, he was letting Valero hit him. this sparring was in preparation to Pacquiao-Morales 1.

Prospects don't hold world titles. He stopped being a prospect when he took the fight with Mosquera, and became a contender. Now he's a champion.

Valero looks good in the sparring sessions but I guess he just comes out like a windmill in his pro fights, from what I've heard. He's fought some durable guys and KO'd them in less than 2 (except for Mosquera, obviously). Here's a list of fighters who were considered durable (this is for you, DLT):

Roque Cassiani - He'd gone the distance with Wilfredo Vazquez, Juan Manuel Marquez, and Victor Polo; He'd also gone 10 with Mighty Mike Anchondo and since losing to Valero, has gone the distance with Leavander Johnson, Koba Gogoladze, and Urbano Antillon.

Estaban De Jesus - He was coming off a DQ loss to Mosquera in a fight that, by all acounts, he was dominating. He had proven himself a good, durable journeyman and Valero disposed of him in 1.

Whyber Garcia - He'd gone 12 with Valdemir Pereira and 9 with Maldonado. He'd proven his durability as well.

Genaro Trazancos - He'd fought Jose Cotto to 7 rounds, Daniel Seda to 10, and Luevano to 5, yet Valero destroyed him in 2.

I have nothing but good things to say about Valero but I'd like to see the Mosquera fight and judge for myself how well he does after the second round.

I just downloaded Magicjordan's video of him and to me he looked very flawed. He is basically another version of Pac. I hate watching one demensional Southpaws who just throw there left hand over & over & over again, e****ally when it comes from a ****ty angle. He doesnt seem to have any kind of boxing skill at all. Pac has alot of speed and throws good combos. Valero just seems like a one punch at a time stalker.

I kind of liked the guys JMM fought last night. All he did was throw his left also but it was very techniqal. Valero has one of those ****ty lefts that come from the waiste and is extremely low. A good fighter would eat that **** up with a straight right that would clean his clock. Thats what the guy did last night and thats what some others have done to him but they dont have the power or skills to hurt him.

His chin stays wide open. Will he be a good fighter? Probally but nothing special and he's really only going to be good because he is a lefty and most guys have hard times fighting them because you cant see there **** coming.

If he fights Rocky or MAB right now he would get his ass whooped. He is sloppy, has bad footwork, stays offbalance, keeps his chin up, and throws low wide shots. Atleast Pac throws his **** straight.

Again, its hard to judge from one look but that **** was a bad look and he just seems like a gunner to me with extremly bad technique. I think a great fight right now would be him vs Barrios

he acts like he is an expert boxing trainer. remember he just tore apart a guy who is 20-0 with 20 ko's and just won the wba title. sounds like an armchair qb to me
