Comments Thread For: Parker's Manager Could See Usyk Clash For Vacant WBO Title

Davis Higgins, manager of former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker, believes there is a possibility that his boxer could secure the opportunity to fight for his old title. At the moment, undefeated Oleksandr Usyk is the mandatory challenger for the belt. Current champion Anthony Joshua has been ordered to face him.

I don't mind this fight, but not for a trash bin title. First Fury dumps it, now AJ sheds it like a lizzard sheds it's skin. Why fight for a title nobody wants, people are giving it away. It's the scrap, the overflow. Parker is wasting his time chasing something where he'll still be the B side even if he kos Usyk. AJ will will still claim he beat Parker and nobody thinks Parker can take Wilders right.

Anyone wanna explain why ***** coward Joshua is dropping the belt?

EDIT - Nevermind. Here's the reason ""You could end up with a situation where you have Usyk fight Parker for the vacant title, which funnily enough is how Joseph became world champion. He fought [Andy] Ruiz for the vacant title. History repeats. Usyk is a very tough fight. He's a southpaw, he would dissect Anthony Joshua."

the wbo heavyweight title has always been like that. vacated so fighters can fight for one of the proper "big 3" belts.

They don't even need to do this though, right? Typically there's a rotation.

I was hoping the WBO would order Whyte/Usyk so we could watch Whyte run away from his 176th Eliminator while claiming he's already the mandatory, and then fight Marco Huck

I been saying this for years. The WBO belt has always been looked at as a secondary belt to many American boxers & promoters. Ray Mercer stripped for not fighting his mandatory in Michael Moorer instead signing for a bout with Larry Holmes. Moorer vacated the WBO title after beating Bert Cooper so he could get ranked by the other 3 bodies. Bowe beat Herbie Hide & defended against Jorge Luiz Gonzalez before vacated the belt to sign for a rematch with Holyfield. Akinwande beat Jeremy Williams for the vacant title then he vacated to fight Lennox Lewis. Corrie Sanders crushed Wladimir Klitschko then vacated to fight Vitali for vacant WBC title. In 2000 the WBA started recognizing the WBO champion, 2004 the WBC followed & the IBF in 2007. The WBO was really only recognized in europe not in the US. The first HW champion was Damiani in 1989 after he beat Johnny DuPlooy. This happened while Tyson was the undisputed champion. It is still the least regarded & has way too many regional belts allowing undeserved fighters to gain top 15 rankings who really have no business being ranked highly. Tom Schwarz, Fujimoto, Faure, Fa, McKean, Romanov & Zhang are all in their top 15. I regard it as a secondary belt still...
