No announcement yet.
What IF Kovalev had said, “I want Canelo, I dare him to fight me.” And Canelo didn’t.

can you say the same of the others -
beterbiev - only just unified after a massive safe streak
adonis - got poleaxed once he faced someone very good, left it too late too old
groz -cant hold onto a title nor win it back
the bivol guy - respectable but nothing above title level yet like kov.
in fact kov has exceeded all of the aboves
Sure Beterbiev is number 1 LHW now but Kov was a few months ago.
tried to unify titles with anyone but ward because he was a smaller non puncher. He or his team snuck out the back door of not one but two purse bids with Stevenson. Kovalev is a damn good fighter especially a few years back (before Ward2) but like other good fighters who are the same complexion he gets a lot of passes.
I will say he was more professionally experienced then some of the others that you’ve named but he had been knocked out twice by non punchers and hurt by a novice in his last four fights before Canelo conveniently decided to challenge himself by facing him at the time he did.

I would have asked wtf kovalev was doing calling out a mw. We don’t have to hypothesize here...we know the reasons canelo was willing to face kovalev and the fight proved it. Nobody came away from that saying “wow, canelo just beat a prime kovalev who really looked great in there”.

Canelo goes up 2 weight classes and knockouts out a 36 year old current champion and gets hate, Davis goes up one weight class, comes in heavy, it takes him 12 rounds to finish a one legged, 38 year old fighter who hasn't held a real belt in 8 years and there's tons of threads excusing him or even praising him.

Therefore, the fact that there’d be talk about those unification fights, and yet Krusher is still fighting today, proves the hate towards Canelo in not getting credit since he’s significantly smaller than all of them. It looked like Mikey vs Spence in ratio. Spence wasn’t even fully big because he had to do his 10lb morning rule.
It all evens out. Fans just put high standards acting like they know about weights.

TS nailed it.
The standards for Canelo are so highly it’s crazy but that just has more to do with his haters never being satisfied regardless how many times he whoops they’re favorite fighters
