Shaq was saying that he was dragged to the fight. Something tells me a lot of the celebs were probably pressured to support tank and probably given free tickets.

Tank draws "star power", doe!...

His team will need to get creative to overcome that pathetic performance last night. I suspect they will be begging and blowing Santa Cruz to come up to 135 so they can attract a recognized name. They will need a stacked undercard to sell his next fight.

Most of the celebrities they showed in the audience were retired basketball players and other boxers. Black Hollywood doe. Where was Tyler Perry and Oprah?

They still estimate PPV's being sold in their millions but then the actual figures never seem to break half a million. There is only 1 fighter on the planet doing PPV's by the million and thats not happening in the States.
I heard there were about 14k paid up customers in attendance for Tank v Gamboa. That sounds a decent number. I suspect the TV ratings will be decent too. I think Tank Davis has the drawing power to be a PPV star but just like fighters before him he needs to be facing better opposition to get him over the line. This is where they keep falling down, they build them up but then start to stutter and stall when it comes to making the real big fights but its the real big fights that will get you the numbers. Thats what the fans are waiting for.
It seems certain guys over in America are under the impression they can TELL fans who is and who isnt a star but its the fans that decide that and American Casual Boxing fans, just like any nations Casual Boxing fans are not that casual that they will have the wool pulled over their eyes. They know what is a big fight or risky fight or a walk over. Thats why Wilders popularity never exploded and thats why Wilder is angry and is having to DEMAND TO BE A STAR. Hes going around telling fans they SHOULD love him. What a sad state of affairs it is with that joke of a fighter. The fans just wanted him to be in fights that were dangerous or tested him, known dangerous opposition. But he kept going with the bums. Its a clear link why Wilder isnt a superstar and cant sell PPV's while he sits with one of the worst resumes a champ has ever had.
No idea what constitutes a star in the US if the likes of Davis, Spence, Canelo and Wilder are "stars".
Europe in the last twenty years has had Naz, Wlad, Vitali, Hatton, Calzaghe, Khan, Froch and now AJ. Guy who can top millions of views on terrestrial TV, thousands in arenas and millions on PPV with general recognition among casual fans or the general public. I can't think of a major US fighter other than Mayweather to come close to that in the same time?
Even Canelo is not an exact star (how many people walking the street outside of Mexico would recognise him?) but at least he is, from what I hear, recognisable in Mexico. But his PPV numbers are nowhere near what AJ is pulling in.
The false economy of US boxing, high paid fighters fighting bums, killed HBO (As I predicted in 2015) and will soon drive Showtime away from boxing and likely have PBC go under in a few years time.
