What EXACTLY is a RIGHT CROSS

    term doesn't get used anymore.

Now we hear right hand or overhand. Pro boxer commentators won't say right cross either

What exactly is a right cross?

It's a straight right hand. Not an overhand

It's a straight 'dominant' hand that finishes going to a downward momentum I think, which the fist 'crosses' from a straight line. Correct me guys if I'm wrong here.

I thought I knew but I looked it up. I was wrong The right cross is a counterpunch right hand that crosses over the opponents arm. If the opponent throws a jab and you slip it your right hand counter punch crosses over or under the extended arm of your opponent and hopefully lands on his chin. The straight right travels directly to the target.

Always just assumed that a straight right and right cross are as they sound...a straight right is thrown straight...a right cross is when you load up the hips a little more and finish more to your left (if orthodox)...a right cross would generally have more weight behind it and thus be a bigger punch generally...whenever I've shadow boxed you can see what imo is a straight right/right cross pretty clearly in a mirror if one is around

I'll post a video of me hitting the heavy bag and speed bag sometime and you can do the same...and we can let people decide who could work who over

Honestly I think it varies from person to person. Some say its a straight and other say it's more of an overhand over the jab (without massive looping) Some old school guys showed me it as a straight but hearing it as a punch that's meant to cross over a jab makes more sense to me.

Either way the one thing it is not is a punch that crosses over your own body. I think that's the most common misconception, among beginners anyway.
