He looked a step slower and was lucky to get the decision.

GGG has looked overly bulked up since the Wade and Lemieux fights. Maybe it happened when his father died and he had to go home to attend to his family, and he stopped fighting every 3 months like he had been doing for a long time. Or maybe as part of Abel's strategy to make GGG into a KO artist pressure fighter destroyer, instead of the much-more-effective-for-creating-knockouts explosive boxer-puncher style, Abel had GGG doing weight training to bulk up more every single camp until eventually, they overdid it.

Has anyone seen videos of GGG training before? Does anyone know if he does weights?

Because GGG looked "old" at 32 or 33 years old, but he really has looked the same ever since. If he was getting "old" you would see continued decline, right? Instead all we saw was major decline overnight, at 32 or 33 years old. One fight he looked great, the next he looked sluggish, and that continued on since then. So is that really age, or is it possible that for that one "turning point" training camp, he finally reached the limit of the amount of muscle his frame could effectively carry, he finally went overboard, and ever since then, he's stayed that way, never figuring out the mistake he made, and never correcting it?

The type of muscle is also important. I think training in high altitude has this exact effect on older athletes. Apparently it replaces their lean fast twitch muscles with bulkier, softer muscles I guess. I see that in GGG's physique too now.

I just hope he finally figures out and fixes this bs before his next fight, before he really is too old and his entire late-prime is essentially wasted out of ignorance.
CURIOUS. At what age will you finally give up and just say ggg is old and not the same fighter anymore simply due to his age?

Yeah, Canelo is a small fighter but he's going up to 175 to fight Kovalev next. And don't give me that, "Canelo is only 5ft 8in!". He has a huge frame for his height. Let's just see what he weighs in at vs Kovalev. If he weighs in just below the 175 lb limit, we'll know he is very comfortable at that weight. He was juicing to get down as low as 155 to take advantage of guys like little old Cotto. This has been proven. Canelo is a great boxer and I give him massive credit for challenging Kovalev but he was never a small middleweight.

Not only that but his aura of invincibility went away when he lost that rematch to Canelo. I even think getting the draw in the first fight when he should've got the nod took its toll on Gennady.

If GGG had won by ok then everyone would be on JB nuts saying how he changed him and Abel wasn’t any good for him. JB love boxing and has a heart for it, all these haters trying to get in GGG ear so they can jockey for the same job.
You definitely can't put all the blame on Banks so I hear your point but that doesn't mean the trainer has immunity to criticism. Banks was more than lackluster in the corner and sounded like he either just got up, wanted to go to bed or just smoked a lot of dope because there was no energy or clarity coming from him and a lot of his instructions amounted to general statements that didn't directly address or offer any solutions to the problems Golovkin was having with Deryvanchenko. He sounded disinterested and with his near comatose delivery, he wouldn't motivate a mouse to a piece of cheese.

For me, GGG looked better than he against Rolls. In the Rolls fight GGG looked veeeery slow, even though Rolls didn't cuase serious problems.

Against Derevyanchenko, GGG looked more confident and faster in the earlier rounds. But Derevyanchenko had a great game plan. After the fight Derevyanchenko said that when there existed enough space between them, Gennady could stand firmly on the legs and throw long hard punches. But when Derevyanchenko bullied and shortened the distance, it was uncomfortable to GGG.

I watched the fight again, and again saw that Derevyanchenko beat GGG.

Yes, Golden Boy for years trying to convince everyone of how small Alvarez was all to avoid prime GGG. Thats why he created the 155 weight class way back in 2014 for Angulo fight. Even for Trout in 2013 he was at 172 on fight night, more than GGG’s normal rehydration weight at 160! All smoke screens & bs.

Give some props to Dervy, you don't just look for what was wrong with GGG. Dervy did what everyone assumed was right thing to do fighting Golovkin. He put a lot of pressure on him, stayed inside, threw combos targeting body a lot. I mean Canelo also did a lot of those but was more cautious and defensive. Dervy is a hell of a fighter and would give similar war to Canelo as well.

He was usually the smaller fighter. Heck He was smaller and lighter than brook every step of the way when they fought.
