I’m curious how Nacho would do with GGG, honestly. He has always been a teacher of the game. Not saying Banks isn’t coming from the great Kronk gym and under legendary late trainer Stewart. But I believe Nacho is on a higher level than Banks.

I called it! I feel he overtrained, in desperation to look great and land canelo... also not a fan of banks, people please stop mentioning he was prodigy of Emmanuel Stewart...he’s NOT Emmanuel Stewart!!

The problem was his opposition. He's had four great, close fights. He also has four fights against competition that isnt over matched. That's nothing against GGG, that goes for all 1st tier fighters, WHEN they fight dudes on their level. Some may be blowouts because of styles or other factors but most times we just get close fights to enjoy. They just rarely fight guys on there level. Two of his last five fights were wasted on bums. Guys have been willing to fight GGG since at least the first Nelo fight. If you've been "ducked", why not fight guys that at least are ranked higher and calling you out (Charlo,Andrade,BJS etc! Vanes and Rolls shouldnt get to fight anyone in the top 20 at 160.

Again, not just GGG. Everyone with a belt or ranked in the top 5 should be fighting guys in the top 10 in there division every fight.

Age and new trainer has an impact but 80% is the level of competition in front of you.

I say GGG should keep fighting and stack his money. Hes a draw now. Plus hes live against anyone, even at 37.

This is probably the first time in a while he has struggled to make 160.
He failed the first fight day weigh in and had to shed some pounds which he normally doesn’t have to worry about the day of the fight.
He looked a step slower and was lucky to get the decision.

Banks original advice was to avoid Derevy completely, and target Charlo

he even said that Andrade would be a better opponent for G than Derevy

I would like to take the opportunity to kick Golovkin when he is down, but this situation is similar to Spence/Porter... rather than criticize Spence, punters should realize that Porter will do that to everyone, including Crawford

Jacobs did a better job of containing Derevy because he is so familiar with his style... but I think that no matter who you are (Charlo/Andrade/even Canelo) take note... if you do not contain Derevy, he will lite you up like a christmas tree... just like Porter does unless you contain/limit him... and that is a lot easier said than done

not sure about the training, Nacho could be right... but that particular opponent did not help one little bit

maybe Golovkin detractors were a little vicious in their criticism when Team Golovkin avoided Derevyanchenko to preserve their Canelo payday

So is Nacho going to train him?

                    That would be interesting.

Lol I just posted this earlier in the day. Thanks for backing me up Nacho!

GGG has looked overly bulked up since the Wade and Lemieux fights. Maybe it happened when his father died and he had to go home to attend to his family, and he stopped fighting every 3 months like he had been doing for a long time. Or maybe as part of Abel's strategy to make GGG into a KO artist pressure fighter destroyer, instead of the much-more-effective-for-creating-knockouts explosive boxer-puncher style, Abel had GGG doing weight training to bulk up more every single camp until eventually, they overdid it.

Has anyone seen videos of GGG training before? Does anyone know if he does weights?

Because GGG looked "old" at 32 or 33 years old, but he really has looked the same ever since. If he was getting "old" you would see continued decline, right? Instead all we saw was major decline overnight, at 32 or 33 years old. One fight he looked great, the next he looked sluggish, and that continued on since then. So is that really age, or is it possible that for that one "turning point" training camp, he finally reached the limit of the amount of muscle his frame could effectively carry, he finally went overboard, and ever since then, he's stayed that way, never figuring out the mistake he made, and never correcting it?

The type of muscle is also important. I think training in high altitude has this exact effect on older athletes. Apparently it replaces their lean fast twitch muscles with bulkier, softer muscles I guess. I see that in GGG's physique too now.

I just hope he finally figures out and fixes this bs before his next fight, before he really is too old and his entire late-prime is essentially wasted out of ignorance.
